We are down to our last set..

I have an 02 plate E class, wasn't sure of the best way to get a new spare set.

Many thanks

Go to a main dealer ... that's the only way. Check what ID they will need, and be prepared for significant cost (£150 plus?).

As BTB above there is no other way,, I had heard it said that these keys now cost £200 you do need the car log book and some personel ID before you can order

But the money is worth it, pass over £150 and you get a shiny key! :D

Not necessarily :( I assumed that all newly issued keys would be the new chrome bling ones but I have just picked up a new one from the dealer and it is the same old drab one.

If you order one I would specify that you want the new style chrome key.

And, just to confirm, you must turn up at the dealer with your V5 registration document to prove you are the registered owner and also have with you your drivers licence or passport and a recent domestic bill confirming your address.

These must be presented in person at the dealership BEFORE they will even order your new key. They will also need your credit/debit card details for payment.

The key will take just over a week to arrive and they MAY need to code your car also (mine did not need coding for some reason!).

A snip at £155

Presumably if they need to do the car coding bit you can add 1/2 hour's labour also.

You got the old key? MB are becoming tricky devils, maybe they wanted to get rid of old stock first?

Chances are they bought some off ebay cheap :D:D

And then sold them for a hefty profit :)
Good thinking Malc, or they could be taking other keys that were handed in and reselling them on after a few touch ups!

New key on ServicePlus?? Tell us more...

As all have said, go to Main dealer. But do try for 10% off if the bloke in parts is helpful he should put it down to trade or MB club discount?

So long as your car has space for a new key (and you would need to eat a lot of keys to fill it) and the dealer orders the key correctly (a lot of them don't) then you won't need coding.
