2001 w220 320cdi
Hi All

I've finally had the no.6 injector changed on my 2001 s320 cdi, so fingers crossed my starting problems are over.

whilst I had the engine cover off I was looking around the engine trying to familiarize myself with a diesel engine, and noted a large 'canister' type part between the passenger side of the engine and the aluminium part that the silver engine cover bolts too.

This part has 4 hoses going into the top of it, which I think are fuel pipes.

What is this part, Is it the fuel filter, googling I have found pictures of metal fuel filters in this location, but on later models.

Other posts seem to say that the diesel fuel filter is on the rear of the car underneath the seats ??

Thanks

Chris

I'm no expert on that engine but it sounds like a "charcoal" canister for crank case gas recirculation or EGR etc..

Just to confirm, this is a black plastic canister and says 40nb on it

Thought a heat exchanger would be metal

Thanks

Chris

A picture always helps. There is a fuel filter at the engine end of the fuel line.

If it looks like this it's the fuel filter

Hi
Yes that's the one, so now I know it's the fuel filter and I saw on euro car parts the filter is just an element

Do I just unscrew the top and change the element

Thanks

Chris

Yes unscrew and the top comes off. Element inside.

Always replace the seal too.
