car is a 1990 230te

was having a clean out and found this on the left side of the boot behind the wheel

their is nothing on the outside of the car or above the cover that would show what it was or what it did

Manual sunroof opener/closer, should be a handle that fits on in case the power roof dies and you cant close it.

thats quite a distance from the sun roof lol odd how they would put it in the boot

no wounder why i didnt know what it was

The nature of the device requires a big enough space behind it to accommodate the surprisingly thick & solid cable once the sunroof is open.

it this just the manual operation or is this the motor aswell like you would get on the roof of other cars ?

It's the mechanical motor, the only sunroof motor on the car.

It also incorporates a manual crank option so in the event of failure of the electrically driven motor you can still operate the roof to close it & keep your car secure & dry.
