What Motors Have You Owned?

Always fancied a Scimi SE5a, but could never quite bring myself to own one...

What was it like to drive?

I've only ever owned 3 cars since I passed my test when I was 17:

2004-2011: Toyota Corolla, 1.4L Hatchback
2011-2017: Mercedes Benz SL500, R230
2017-who knows?: Mercedes AMG C63, W205

The Corolla was the car I learned to drive in, ended up taking to University and everything... workhorse of a car that never had any issues and was as reliable as anything, perfect for 17 year old me lol.

When I was growing up my dream car was an SLR and I just remember really wanting an SL as it was a somewhat realistic purchase one day compared to the SLR. Managed to pick one up at a decent price and upgraded from the little 1.4L hatchback to this 5.0L V8! Boy it was expensive to maintain (ABC suspension - if you owned an R230 you'll know the horror stories!!), but I absolutely loved it. Missing the SL already but kept it in the family at least by giving it to my Dad so I see it when I visit my folks.

Then earlier this month I picked up my W205 C63 and within a week of owning it went on a massive 3.5 day road trip to Stelvio and back driving through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Liechtenstein. So. Much. Fun.

I wonder what's next...

Wished I'd kept the 911 and the 420SL but in reality the E500 Cabrio combines the best of those two in a super reliable cheapish to run package.

2003 Alfa 156 GTA SW. Bought in 2007, owned for 10 years.
2013 Mercedes AMG C63. Bought about 2 months ago.

As you can guess from the lengths of ownership, that GTA was a very special car. I hope I can fall in love with the C63 as much as I did the GTA. Early signs are pretty good.

Have you kept the 156 too?

Ideally you need both - the GTA for hooning around country roads (where it's much more fun than a Merc) and the Merc for longer journeys, and some balance between the silly grins, open wallet and hopeless rage which accompanies owning an Alfa

2006 Peugeot 407 2.0hdi estate (65,000 miles in 3.5 years and never let me down. Written off when someone ran in the back of it)
