Sorry if this has been covered before but just noticed my A45 has no foglights on the front. There is a switch on the dash for rear fogs but why no front fogs other than saving money? A quick look at the brochure and it looks like none of the new A class now have front fogs. I suppose it stops people driving around with them on all the time:)

Are they not built into the main headlight cluster?

    W204s (C class) have none.

I've never been convinced that their usefulness outweighed the idiocy of the drivers who thought they were a fashion accessory. At least on the old W202 the fog lights were cancelled when the lights were switched off.

They must be for some models. The manual shows front and rear fog switches but my AMG only has a switch for rear.

Some vehicles now have them housed as DRLs where fogs would normally be

Does your car have the ILS? If so, then if it's like the ILS on a W/S212, the front light pattern changes (flattens and widens) when you switch on the rear fog lamps.

No ILS just the standard bi-xenon lights.

Dont you have anything where the FOG lights are supposed to be. I though the day LED lights take that position.
My wife queried me why the new B class we ordered will not have FOG lights and my answer was simple... Not necessary. The normal lights are more than good enough and if its foggy you go slow.... The rear is more important for people to see you

Would be interested to know the rationale behind that, Theo.

If you slow down because of bad visibility and others dont the rear fog light will make you more visible. The front fog lights improve visibility very marginally and should not change the way you drive i.e you have to slow down anyway
Basically to put it in plain english the rears are there to make you visible early enough to the idiots that are speeding in foggy conditions .
Not sure if everybody agrees but that is my personal opinion.

No black plastic trim there where you'd expect to see fog lights. The DRLs are on the headlight unit. The LEDs run around the edge.

R172 SLK doesn't have fogs either, just the DRLs in bars in the lower grille. I believe the cars with active lighting have them.
