Apparently there is 1,1 litre of oil in the diff, mercedes is selling one litre bottle for 25 pounds, ouach:wallbash:
Is there any oil that would be suitable to use and from a reputable company but not at the rip off price from the stealer knowing that I'll need 2 bottle...
Cheers.

mercedes dealer sold me oil for my diff (85w-90) for £12 per litre.

Now, this is better then I was quoted... Any 85W- 90 recommendation?
Thank you.

just reading other forums, one is using 75W90 oil, I think I'll go to a shop tomorrow, not the stealer...

I was told by a mechanic that diff oil should not be replaced. Should only be topped up.

Replacing the oil makes the diff go noisy.

I believed him cuz I had experienced such incident first hand with with my grand cherokee.

???

well, I'll top it up today anyway, might be empty though, I don't see why it'll make the diff noisier if you change the oil?
Anyway, to be continued :)

Thats because the cherokee is american:D

Any half tidy 80/90, 85/90 or variation of will be fine any good motor factor should do it.

Ps we change diff oils all the time and its not reason for diff failure, usually ardous conditions or water contamination.

The only available at alford was the alford brand... I took it, no much choice on it. Hope it'll do. I call another mercedes garage and again got quoted 26 quid / litre... Special oil. OK, it might be a special thingy but its a rip off...

Where can I get some good oil for the diff? Is the halford one OK? Reckon? Thank you. Olivier

Dont forget merc diff is a boring std diff nothing special, so standard diff oil including halfords will be okay:)

There's nothing "special" about the diff oil for an E300TD diff !!
