Yesterday morning I opened my drivers door and the kick plate (the bit piece of plastic which is clipped on to the bottom of the door frame) ripped off as it was stuck to the bottom of the door. Thinking lightning would not strike twice my Dad opened the passenger door and the same thing happened except under where his kick plate should have been was 2 big patches of rust. After seeing this I checked anything else visible around both doors and noticed that there is also rust on the on the inside top part of both doors. If you hold back the rubber surrounding the door, sort of like where it would be inserted there is rust in several points along the lip.

Has anyone seen either of these situations before? Are they covered by the rust warranty?

Thanks in advance guys.

A tale of mixed blessings indeed. Sorry to hear about the rust, but fortunate that you have discovered it far earlier than you might have otherwise done.

Depending on the age of the car, I would take it down to the local dealer and get them to assess for a warranty claim.

But before you do that, have a very close look around the rest of the car - arches, floor, boot, etc etc.

Good luck.

What year is the car?

a man once told me... once it gets to the doors.. patch it up as best you can and sell it on.

And yet the doors are removeable and replaceable - I personally worry far more about rear arches, and other "integral" parts of the body - roof, sills, door posts etc.
