Hello!
As we all know new generation of ML is just behind the corner which means its perfect time to buy previous one with full spec and cheap.:bannana: And that is what I think of.
So anyway could you perhaps tell me what to watch out for in second hand ML's? I mean what about milage itself ; is there any point where you loose some sort of warranty etc? Any options/specs which you really should avoid like Airmatic? I have heard that its very expensive to fix once broken. Basically any good advice for this particular car?
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, I spent four years with the pre-facelift ML and was very impressed - lovely car. You would get a lot of car for comparatively little money at the moment.
However, I think the ML is a car born of a previous era where tax brackets, emissions, economy/high fuel prices, size, weight, etc, were less of an issue. I could see it becoming a bit of a dinosaur so I offloaded mine and moved into something far more efficient all round.
The new model, of course, will address all these issues, but the car will be top dollar for years!
It's hard to comment on specs as everyone's needs are different, but in the second hand market there are loads of cars very well specced, so you may as well go for the best. Comand is what everyone wants (although in my view it's not that brilliant) and personally I like full leather but nearly all the current models are alcantara.
Not many MLs are airmatic - in this sort of car it's hardly necessary but I wouldn't reject it on grounds of reliability. Fact is with this sort of car if anything goes wrong, it will be expensive (!). After the three year warranty expired I bought warranties for peace of mind (but shop around, no need to pay MB's price).
Best of luck with your search...
