What tyres are people wearing nowadays?

Back in my Supra days it was all about the Goodyear Eagle F1, but I haven't really thought about tyres lately and the CLS has only had MB recommended Contis as replacements.

So what should I go for now the fronts need changing? The Continental rears still have lots of tread.

I was thinking Pirelli P Zero, but got confused by the website where I get my tyres done as they seem to have the same tyre for £211.86 or £191.00!

Anyway not that bothered about cost or long life but would like good wet and dry grip and reasonably quiet. Thoughts?

I had Pirelli P Zero on my CLS55, very quickly changed them, terrible grip levels, especially in the wet. Never again..
Changed to Michelin PS3 MO1, like night and day! Brilliant grip in both wet and dry. Rear only lasted between 8-10k miles but loved them, so sure footed. Also had very pronounced rim protector.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S were fitted to my last car and were possibly the best all rounder I've used. Much better than the Continentals I had on the previous car.

Excellent grip in the dry, more than acceptable in the wet and, even at 11,500 miles, still enough tread for another good few months, with over 4mm left on the fronts, 5+ rear. (4WD)

Possibly not the cheapest, though deals are available, but I'd certainly use them again.

Dunlop Sport BluResponse.

Nothing particularly 'sporty' about it... but very good all-rounder.

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 3's as well. May be a little on the soft side for the CLS 63 and wear a bit too quickly. I'd probably go Michelin on that car.

I tried several but weirdly enough i came back to 1 particular tyre for my MB, and that is the Hankook DynaPro HP2, superb handling wet and dry, super quiet, longest lasting by far, i drive about 30k a year mostly motorway high speed, (shhh) and these chukkas lasted 4 months longer than the rest, so Hankook for me in future, other thing to mention is they are alot cheaper to, i get mine from TyreLeader.co.uk : Cheap tyres online | Buy car tyres at the best prices

Off road capabilities are far superior aswell

C-class is on Pirelli P Zero. No complaints on the grip front wet or dry. They do seem to wear quite quickly though, especially if driven in a 'spirited' manner.

Golf is on Continental Sport Premium 6 and they have been great all round.

MX-5 was on factory-fitted Bridgestone Pontenza RE050A which were OK, but after 19500 miles and five-years old it was time to change them. Went with a set of Goodyear F1 Eagle Asymmetric 5 on a deal from Kwik-Fit. Only fitted on Monday and have driven it less than ten miles since then, so can't comment on ride, noise, grip or wear yet.

I have used Michelin Primacy 3 years ago and was very happy with it, very quite and comfortable ride. I have changed them to Goodyear Easygrip couple of months ago, they are slightly noisier than Michelin but braking is much better than Michelin.

Michelin PS4 or new Goodyear ASY 5. Both brilliant

So it’s down to Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Hankook, Bridgestone, Uniroyal, Goodyear or Continental? :)

And good/bad reports from owners of SUVs, 4x4s, FWD and lightweight RWD owners :D

Must be a lot easier to decide now!

You left out Falken?

After this and some reviews and videos I'm leaning towards the PS4S now.

I’ve an SL63 so not quite the same car but similar. I have found the Goodyear F1s to be best particularly for wet weather grip. Car was really lairy in the wet with Pirelli PZeros. I’ve tried PS4s but didn’t notice the difference and they don’t last as long. A positive is with the 63 engine it won’t be long before you can try another brand;)

Tyre brand as per screen name:

Sport Contact 5 M0 (Mercedes) fitment all round. Rear wheels are wider than front (factory Avantgarde SE spec). To be fair... I’ve not had a problem with the continentals. Obviously being a rear wheel drive car and the tyres are technically a summer tyre I think... you have to drive with caution if the road is caked in snow and ice, never had a problem with their wet performance. I put around 33psi in the front and 36-38 on the rears depending on load.

W203 c class.

I’ve always been very pleased with Michelin cross climates, but my Audi allroad came with Uniroyals. Good but only lasted 10k miles. Four Dunlop sport maxx being fitted tomorrow so we’ll see.
