I've got a few (20ish) websites, all hosted with HostMonster.

Over time, I've grown more and more weary of their tactics (e.g. raising prices every year for existing members, while lowering prices for new members... all without informing you, so you find out only when your credit card bill arrives...

I'm starting to look for another host... any advice?

Ideally one that will do the entire transition for me :p but otherwise my requirements are:

PHP
MySQL (MANY databases... ideally "unlimited")
Lots of storage space (ideally "unlimited"; as false as that may be)
Lots of bandwidth (ideally "unlimited"; as false as that may be)

Thing is... it also needs to handle about 7000 unique visitors a month...

Any advice?

Servage offer "unlimited" but as you have obviously come to realise, what's offered and what you get...

Personally I'd recommend Krystal Web Hosting - a 100% UK Based Hosting Company est. 2002 all Uk staff, all technically competent staff, you get exactly what they say you will get, and basically decent people.

HTH etc

The Pre School that my partner chairs use Krystal. They asked for a copy of the invoice at renewal time so that they can produce it for the charity accounts. Krystal immediately cancelled the invoice and gave it them for free...

My web designer uses Heart Internet who also see quite switched on.

Looks good... and they use cPanel as well, which would simplify the migration... Only issue is I think that I have more than 10 databases... simply because each site has at least one! May need to pay £15 a month :p

I like Avahost - their service is very good with live online help most of the time and you get a lot of space/bandwidth for your money

Perhaps it would work out cheaper for you to look into co-lo space and provide your own server, or rent a rack server or virtual machine in someone's co-lo facility?

Your welcome to contact me. You can see on our site at www.rockinternet.co.uk but we provide hosting for smaller resellers and designers etc. at special discount rates. We can do all your sites unlimited and can customise the platform for any requirements really. Let us know what you want and how much your budget is and I am sure we can do something for you....special fellow MBClub rates;)

why dont you get your own server and be in total control? I have three servers hosted at 1and1.

To answer some questions:
- Dedicated: I have a 42U rack in my garage... works wonders, but my upload speed isn't good enough to host my own site. Dedicated hosted elsewhere... way too expensive...

- 1and1: hell no. Wait, let me think about it again... uhm, hell no! I was with 1and1 a good few years ago, and made a vow never to touch them again. They still have one of my .co.uk domains...

- Rock: Thanks for the offer, but my budget is TINY. I'm currently paying around 10 USD per month for hosting (+ domain registration)... I doubt I can afford your services :) I'd be willing to pay a bit more, but not enough to go dedicated. I realise my sites aren't popular enough to be dedicated :)

- Will try to get a Krystal account next month

best deal i found was with UK2.net reseller + program unlimited storage bandwidth and most importantly for me unlimited email addresses, if u want me to host your domains let me know pm me i will give u a good price!! let me know the best price u r getting and i will beat it for u, as i am not doing for profit just to subsidies my own hosting

Excellent, I have 12 terabytes of 1080p that I need to stream raw at 60 mbit/sec, a mere pimple on your unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth.

With the disk space and bandwidth left over you can host Google and Microsoft.

We do packages from £39.99 per year so should have something to fit your budget.
