What would you recommend for new car?

Hi all
I am finally getting rid of my rust ridden 2001 petrol W210 which I think is a great drive with a poor body and cannot decide what to replace it with. I am considering an E class diesel, possibly E220, about year 2007/08. Does anyone know of any problems or advice with this? Any C class suggestions as an alternative and should I go for petrol or diesel. I'm sure there will be many opinions but i would like a bit of feedback please before I start visiting dealers.

If I were looking at an E-class I'd recommend the E280 or E320 CDI if you can stretch to that, in terms of C-classes, if I were looking for one I'd probably want a W204 C320 CDI Elegance at that age if possible. As regards whether you want petrol or diesel you should base your decision on whether you cover enough miles to justify a diesel and which you prefer driving. I'd go for a diesel though. Just my opinion.

The facelift E220 CDI is a very balanced car. I upgraded to a 280 which has the advantage of a little more refinement and go, but comes with bigger fuel bills. If you are looking for a high spec car (COMAND, leather, memory seats etc) then they are easier to find in the larger engined V6 cars.
Avangarde spec brings Xenons as standard and are well worth having

As a follow up, as road tax is based on co2 emissions now where I live, any suggestions as to a particular model with good emissions?
