Car
slk350 with airscarf plus E280CDI Sport Est
Both cars are showing C service due.The E class is now at 74k.
What is a C servvice.

The SLK is 2 Y.O and only done 10K.It now has 12 month rigid service interval set by ASSYST.I find it a tad overpriced at a quote for £330 to service it.It should really only need an oil change and a quick check over.I want to keep Mobilo as AA/Rac is about £70 and is false economy as Indies in real terms add up to about th same service costs.

Any thoughts

Yes,but most dealers only quote an A or B service so what is C?

Milton St quoted £330.Anything else,Air con recharge,Brake fluid will be done at Indy.

Whilst on the topic of C services - mine is showing C service in 5,000 miles, but it is now exactly 1 year since I got the car and it was last serviced (07 car with 13,000 miles)

Question - do I rely on Assyst which will mean servicing in about August in my case, or should I stick to annual servicing regardless?

Thanks - I am sure this has been dealt with many times, but struggling to find the right threads.

Thanks

I'm led to believe that the letter designations are not incrementally logical...

Going by this manual:
http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdfs/W211_advisor/219 HO FSS Plus (WFF) 08-16-02.pdf
the new system instead of just asking for an A or B service, asks for A thru H... Where an A service takes about and hour, and an H about 8 hours. (so essentially, it's based on time estimates and not on a preset list of items that need doing. While before you may have gotten a B service indicator if one of the "checkboxes" was out, now you get a "time-quote" of how long the service will take)

Reading the manual, it seems like you can get it to tell you what need checking:
1. Begin at the customer display screen
2. Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds
3. Use the multi-function steering wheel for scrolling
(pages 18 onwards)

Personally, I would rely on the Assyst unit - it "knows" how the car has been treated and the condition of the car, the traditional annual/per mileage was more of a guideline - this is more independent and per car...

I have tried this and nothing happens when pressing reset button for 5 seconds.Anyone else had any luck?

The garage will plug their computer (assume this is the STAR machine) into the car and get an ESS (Electronic Service Sheet).

I had this issue (service G) on my car and they said its just a rough indication, and its this ESS that gives a list of work needed.

You may find that service "C" is just that, a wee oil change but if other work is thrown up then the price will rise.
