Thinking of selling my CLK W208 1998 320 SPORT, I dont want to but the wife has now decided on a caravan and I refuse point blank to put a towbar on such a gorgeous car, I also dont think it would pull what she has got her eyes on.

the car as you can see is in mint condition and probably one of the best if not the best around for sale at this time or will be for sale soon.

it has full main dealer and specialist service history and will be given an A service next week to keep this up, the alloys are unmarked, it has full factory fit amg bodykit including alloys with the larger tyres at the rear aswell as the sport suspension, all old mots and loads of bills was owned by a doctor before me who maintained it regardless of cost, i have just put an alpine cd/mp3 player with ipod dongle in the car and recently changed the v poly belt and tensioner pully it didnt really need them but i thought they looked a bit worn and I like to keep my cars tip top.

the interior is excellent also, the car drives like its just come out of the factory very tight and smoth if you know what i mean.

here are some pics, i was thinking of asking what i paid for it a few months ago which was £6750 have you guys any thoughts on this i want to ask a fair price as i want to sell it and dont want to have to sit on it asking an unrealistic price, the car really is stunning in all aspects and looks about 2yrs old not 10 !!!

see this post for the pics http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=47390

I've just sold a similar 320 Sport to yours, same age, slightly higher miles at 97,000 miles, no bodykit, but did have AMG's which I refurbished before sale, electric sunroof, digital climate control, heated+memory front seats, upgraded Stereo. Mint bodywork + Interior, full MB Service History and that sold for £5275.....at £6750, I think yours could take time to sell, especially in the current market.

thanks for the replies, but I think £5250 is way to low for a car of this caliber and I would be giving it away, when I say this is mint I mean mint perfect in every department I have seen these sell without the bodykit for £5500, i think if i can get someone to view they will buy it as it is one of these cars that everyone falls in love with due to its looks like i did, people comment on this car all the time and people are geniunly amazed when the realise its not new or nearly new.

I may just have to try my hand at £6750 and having thought about it a cars is only worth what someone is willing to pay and as always if you want the best available then you need to pay that little extra.

cheers fellas

I think you need some realism here. The majority of your potential buyers are not going to fork out a premium for body kits, options, equipment etc, especially not for what is after all a 10 year old car.

It's possible given enough time that you'll find someone who is looking for just this car and willing to pay what you want to get, but wanting to sell if fairly quickly on the one hand (as you imply) and asking a well above market price for it on the other hand is not really a balanced proposition IMHO...

It's a pretty looking car and sounds like a good condition example, but you can pick up a CLK55 for only £2K more so I reckon you'll really struggle at that money.

You could advertise it on eBay as an Auction with a reserve price, that should find it's market value :)

Nice car btw

I understand what you are saying but if you look around at what is available for lets say £5500 you will get a half decent clk but it will not be the best available, there are lots of people like me i have found over the years of buying and selling private that will search the country for the best available, yes I may have paid what i consider at the time about 750 over the odds when i was looking around the country for one, quite a few i viewed were what i would class average condition for year but with high mileage and around the £5500 mark going below this to £5000 they tended to be a bit tatty with poor history and so on.

I still believe the art of selling a class car is actually getting someone to view if you do the car will do the rest, I have always had luck in this department as I always spend weeks choosing my cars and travelling the country for the right one and keep them that way, I may struggle if you say that this is way over, all i know is that when i purchased this private there was a lot of interest in the vehicle as proved by the seller with 7 emails from people wanting to view i just happend to be the first to come and see it, the £6750 is not set in stone and i will asses and may go in the £6495 and see what happens.

Thanks will you may be right there with the ebay thing and the clk55 for 2000 more just hope someone wants all those looks but just cant afford to buy and run the clk55..

I recently paid 8K for a CLK 320 I also travelled the country looking for exactly what I wanted. I will be keeping Celia for a long time> some people will pay for what they want.

Thanks Gareth a man after my own heart, i knew i wouldnt be the only one who likes to buy the best they can afford

You're still missing my main point: sure, you might be able to come across someone willing to pay what you ask, even if that is objectively a too high asking price.

I was however pointing out that wanting a reasonably quick sale (as per your first post) is not really compatible with getting the best possible price.

Good luck with the sale anyway.

sorry I disagree with you, you believe the price is to high and so may others but a lot will look at the car and think thats a fair price, thats why i pointed out a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay, when i started the thread just wanted to know what people would be willing to pay as the guys on here are knowledgeable in mercs i would then gage how much to put it up for. some may look and say that clk is £1000 more than that one of the same year and model but both cars could be miles apart in condition and in every other respect, you have to judge every car individually would you buy a rust bucket with poor history for £1200 less than a mint one ???

Hi

Nice car, but in this market i would say you will struggle to get what is effectively near £7k. I have been in the same position as yourself with my C230K when i was selling it. I ended up keeping it 2 years more and selling it for £4k less than i wanted in the first place, which wasnt so bad.

Good luck, hope you get what your looking.

If you are patient you could be lucky.

Think I will end this thread here before you choke on your *sigh* and buy a rust bucket to save a few pennies:rolleyes:

Why not just fit a discrete detachable tow bar to the CLK.?

Dieselman

Very good advice, she would be more than able for any caravan. This way you dont suffer the losses associated with changing a car very quickly.
