whats it worth Advice plse

Hello

A detachable tow bar is the way to go, I had a 330 M-sport convertible and fitted a westfailer fully detachable towbar with drop down electrics. Towed the van fine.

£300 you will be sorted, waiting for someone to buy it at your asking price you could be waiting some time.

Second hand prices seem to have dropped somewhat. Unfortunatly what you think its worth and what someone wants to pay maybe somewhat different.

Unless your after a huge van you should be ok?

Detachable tow bar looks interesting for my CE having just got back from our first camping trip with junior - discussing the merits of roof rack and box vs. trailer on the way back. Don't want a sticky out bit on the back of the coupe.

Are they model specific?

Hello

Yes the fitting kit will be different depending on car, the actual towbar bit (swan neck) will probably be the same.

Its the only make I know that is Fully hidden...

My current ML has one also...

Nice bit of thinking... retractable tow bar etc etc

I like the way its moved the thread back to a constructive tone rather than bitching over used car value.

Another vote for a removable towbar here too.

Assuming that you were genuinely looking for a guide as to how much your car is worth - rather than sidestepping the forum rules with regards to posting classified adverts - I reckon Dieselman's advice is probably the right thing to do.

If it's really that mint, and you really love it, and the only reason you want to replace it is because a caravan is on the horizon, then a removable towbar is good move.

Like A210AMG we have a removable towbar on our ML - it cost about £150 more than a non-removable towbar, but it just looks like a quality product, and avoids spoiling the lines of the car - avoids cutting bumpers too.

I suspect that even with a small premium for the removable version, it would cost less than changing cars.

What sort of caravan have you got your eyes on? There are a few caravanners on here - me included - who may be able to offer further advice.

Unless you're looking at a twin-axle, your W208 should be up to the job.

I've had removable towbars on my last 2 vehicles ... worth the extra cost IMO. Even with a van I don't particularly want to drive around with a load of ironwork sticking out of the back ;) :D

Thanks guys already thought of this before posting, but unfortunatley the caravan she likes is to large for this car to tow, No im not evading forum rules, cars not even for sale yet be a couple of weeks before that holding onto it as much as possible as i really do love it, been trying to sweet talk her into letting me keep it and get a cheap 4x4 to pull it but she is now moaning about petrol prices and 2 big engine cars the usual woman rant.

she cant have the van until ive sold this anyway so I may just get to keep it longer lol.

thanks to all those with sensible advice and points

Kingo30 - why ask for advice if a) you don't like what people, in all honesty, express as their opinion b) you then start to slate them and c)its clear you already have a price in mind?

With your price in mind please try selling it at that. I hope you get it; i don't think you will (and I already KNOW what you will think of my advice:rolleyes: )

Bon chance,

Matt

the caravan is a Sprite Quattro ES by the way
Then you're looking for a vehicle with a kerbweight of 1900 kg (or more), a braked trailer towing limit of at least 1600 kg, and ideally a max. trailer noseweight of 110 kg.

Im not slating anyone if you read it all you would see were the sigh as though im a fool come from, i show respect on here so believe i am entitle to some back, politeness costs nothing, i started the post and then was told to basically get a reality check, yes i did have a price in mind before but was just looking for some polite advice before being told i had no chance by some person who has not even seen the vehicle, he was prob basing his advice on what he has seen on parkers or what car who are nortoriuosly always to high or to low.

other people made sensible comments and suggestions which i am more than happy to accept but not rudeness, if you accept that, then that is fine but i dont.

we have been advised it might be worth investing in a mover as it is twin axle, is that right ??

welll said Mate... having followed this thread to day I don't see where you have gone wrong... just because you ask for a view doesn;t mean you have to take it.

good luck !

I would say yes ... twins are harder to manoeuvre 'by hand'. My single axle caravan is a similar weight (1500 kg MTPLM), and the mover makes manoeuvring it on our drive a doddle. It's not an awful lot extra on the price of a new caravan.

Is there a particular reason why you want a twin axle, btw?

to be honest no, she just liked that caravan with the extra toilet space at the back and the price was good compared to similar ones.

Twins are more difficult to level on-site (side to side) as you can't just raise one wheel. Obviously maintenance costs are higher - 4 lots of brakes to adjust/replace rather than 2, 4 tyres to replace, etc.

Twin axles are associated with 'travellers' ... I've heard of a few sites not allowing them for that reason! They also have a higher risk of theft, which can affect the insurance.

Thanks for the advice, it was mentioned when we were looking by the salesman that some sites wont let you on, may have to sit down with her and speak it through before we purchase, have you any advice on a good caravan around the £13000 - £14000 mark needs to sleep at least 5 ???
