What's it worth

I have a 2005 CL 600 bi turbo, also with full history. The local MB Dealer offered to purchase mine and said it would be put on the forecourt. I think condition and history count as much as age. I purchased it in 2011 with 12 months tier 1 warranty. I renewed the tier 1 for £1308.60 after 12 months, they will cover the car up to 100000miles (at a cost). The tier 1 is what you get with an approved used Mercedes. It may be worth doing this and putting the cost on the price of the car. People would probably purchase with the peace of mind that comes with a top notch warranty.
And yes, the warranty is transferable.

Not sure about that, I always see the CL as a step up the CLS.

I think the only problem with the 500 is it is not a 55.

Not trying to " diss" anyone's CLS you understand :o but sometimes as cars age their more lowly origins --e.g. the W211-- may actually make them a more economically attractive second hand proposition.:dk:
I think WOODYTHEWISE's idea is a good one if the OP is serious about moving his car on.

To be honest you will not replace that car for the cash you will get for it! Put something new on it to make it feel new/different and keep it.

Tony.

parkers or glasses wont have an option for that mileage!

Just tried Parkers and it came in less than 10K, needed payment for the mileage adjustment.
Found this on Honest John, which puts me off, shame I like it.

Subject to same very expensive electrical and electronic problems as W220 S Class.

Heavy depreciation.

Mobilo 30 year warranty against perforated bodywork states "From the 5th year onwards the car should have been serviced by an authorised Mercedes Benz workshop within the last 2 years prior to the damage being repaired".

Side windows prone to de-laminating. Cost £3,000 to replace.

28-12-2012: Mercedes CL 2000-2007 rated 5th most likely car built 1997-2009 to suffer expensive problems according to Warranty Direct December 2012 Reliability Index, with an index of 512 (compared with a rating of 6 for the best).

Its a 2006 not a 1938!....A guy i know has just sold a 1996 R33 GTR for more than he actually paid for it new! I know its not the same but nothing is set in stone!

tony.

Is it already up for sale? In Lanarkshire, 20K minus 5 quid.

Immaculate CL500, full MB service history. B service recently completed. 2 owner car having only 7400 miles from new. Car comes with electric sunroof, sat nav, dual climate control, keyless go, full leather interior, wood trim and steering wheel, cd multichanger, remote boot open and close. This car is in mint condition and comes with genuine mileage, all Mot's with vehicle.
Approx 1 month RAC warranty remains and mot'd until January 2014, tax 08/13.

We've bought two ultra low mileage cars. The first was a Ford Focus Estate that was about six years old when we bought it (IIRC) and had covered only 50 miles (yes, 50) and had been stored indoors. We bought it from a small time trader and paid a relatively small premium over other low mileage cars for sale (say 30.000 to 40,000 miles) for an effectively new car. We owned it for a few years without issues with seals. It was sold with under 30,000 miles on the clock which meant we had a huge amount of interest however and perhaps could have got a better price. However if we had advertised it for more, it would have been up against newer facelift examples of higher spec. We actually had so much interest it was hard to manage.

We bought a 54 plate X5 with 14,000 miles on it being sold by a BMW main dealer and the combination of very low mileage and main dealer warranty attracted us. We probably paid a couple of thousand more than we might otherwise have and there were aspects to the specification which weren't exactly what we were after. We've still got that and have continued with the warranty (and made plenty of claims).

So you should get a decent price for it if you are patient. A warranty will probably help but you have the expense and hassle of putting it through the process. One of the issues is whether it gets filtered out when people search or people assume the mileage is wrong!

Personally I love finding cars like this as they're like new in most respects and make sense particularly if keeping for a long time. They are then generally easy to sell on even if you do quite a high mileage hence you tend not to worry about clocking up the miles. As we prefer not to buy new or near to new due to high depreciation, buying something like this is a way of getting a little used car at a bargain price.

looking at my post 28 above , I think that may be when the car was purchased so appears to be for sale after a couple of months ownership.

s88...yes the car is up for sale, I decided to stick it up and see how it goes. This is car 152 for me and is no reflection on the car, I tend to keep cars for a period and then move to something else...This is by far the best car i have ever owned and if I dont get a decent offer I will keep it.
Its a great car and would be a good buy for someone if the price is right, but will be no hardship for me to keep it

I always find it amusing when people say they don't need to sell,

once you have planted the seed to sell YES you do want to sell. So good luck, what will you change it for.

Seems such a shame its on so low miles when its probably a lovely car to drive.

i really dont need to sell, the car is owned outright but as stated, its car 152 so tend to change regularly, much to my partners agitation!!lol
I will probably change for a C63 or similar but if i keep the CL500, it wont be a hardship...

I'm not suggesting you need the money that has nothing to do with it, its more once you think about selling its generally a done deal.

the seed is planted. I guess if you don't get what you want for it what next? use it now and again? leave it in a garage.... I'm unsure if the value will ever go up? it's not (yet) that type of car.

mind you if you keep it, it will be rarer than a C63 :)

Good luck either way.

Thanks mate...Im very stubborn re my cars, not the right price, no deal!!

I've always admired the CL but it does seem to be the fastest depreciating model in the Mercedes portfolio. Prestigious new but unwanted over about two years old. Lovely car though.

"Im very stubborn re my cars, not the right price, no deal!!"

A car is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it, not what the vendor thinks it is worth. Harsh, but true. I'd normally expect that with that approach, you would end up keeping the car, BUT...it is exceptionally low mileage, and you were willing to pay what some would consider over the odds for the right car, so unless you're totally unique, there's a good chance somebody else will. Best of luck.

Gibby, 152 cars! is there a name for that?

Also.
I have to presume that you are in Scotland?

Lol...there are a few names I've been called by my family and my partner, most of which I couldn't possibly publish on the forum...I would like to just stick to ' enjoyable '.Had some great cars, also some less than great...also approximately 20 motorbikes!
Suffice to say I will never be rich and will be working until I am 90

Living in Scotland in sunny Glasgow.
