Whats the best engine oil

Can anyone suggest the best engine oil for a clk220 diesel .

Something that will reduce the diesel sound uswell

Is Mobil 1 any good?

Is the car fitted with DPF? if so, the oil should be 228.51, 229.31 or 229.51 approved:

Sound reducing? Sounds a bit scary, It's not oil job to do in modern cars, something else is wrong... have you checked your injectors?

Try using some of this . Fuel Additive | Performance Additive | DIESEL POWER ECOMAX Said to quieten things down a bit but remember its a dieselit will never be as quiet as a petrol.

As others said, you can't go wrong with Mobil 1 but check the exact variant to ensure compatibility with the MB Spec Sheet for your engine.

Slight hijack... Oil companies list their 229.51 oils as suitable for both 'Diesel and Gasoline engines', yet MB permits use of 229.51 oils only in thier Diesel engines. The MB Petrol engines are specified as 229.5 but not 229.51. Anyone knows why MB do not approve 229.51 for use in Petrol engines, in spite of the oil companies saying that it is OK for both Diesel and Petrol?

the ".51" of the designation means "Low Ash"..
I seem to recall this is needed for Diesels that have DPF fitted...
No DPF = 229.5
DPF = 229.51

I would have thought that logistically it would make it easier (and cheaper) for garages and MB dealers if they could keep just one type of oil (229.51) to service all cars.

229.51 is about 50% more expensive (per liter) than 229.5 (at least in Finland )
