Car
C32 AMG - Sold October 2013
Hi,

I am selling my car and want to give the leather a good clean before she goes on sale. The leather is in good condition and relatively unmarked but I would like to treat it if possible.

I am will keep the product for the new car so not too bothered about pennies except if I need to remortgage for 250ml of magic elixir!

Thanks

Clive

If the leather is as good as you say then why spend pounds on treatment.

I would suggest a packet of Lux soft washing powder as a cheap option, which will remove all the grime and will sponge off afterwards.;)

As Lux has been discontinued, just shows you how long we have had our packet.:D

Try this.

Thanks Brian, am relatively new to this leather upholstery game so your advice sounds good to me.

Pounds saved on selling the C320 means money towards the upkeep of the C32.

Thanks again

Clive

Use Gliptone liquid leather, wonderful stuff and only £8

It will make the leather smell like new, great for selling :)

Lexol

A chemical engineer in Marietta,Georgia developed the Lexol leather Treatment
over 20 years ago.

If you use the Cleaner and Treatment twice a year the Leather's longevity
is almost tripled...The Treatment has UV inhibitors (AND we all know UV kills
leather) and emollients to preserve the Leather's natural suppleness.

The Vinyl product works well on Dashes and believe it or not tires (No residue)

I didn't think UV could penetrate glass? Which is why you don't tan through glass.

The "UV damaging leather" came from the days of open top motoring...

A window acts like a sunscreen and absorbs/blocks the most dangerous wavelengths of the UV radiation. BUT is does still let some UV rays pass through.

These are the longer wavelengths which are less harmful but you can still tan and burn if you get enough exposure.

Is there really any point feeding leather in modern Mercs? I've tried doing mine with Gliptone and Connolly hide food but I reckon it wipes straight off again. Unlike the leather I had in my 190 Cosworth which smelt and felt beautiful, the leather on my C Class feels like it came off a DFS sofa!

Modern leathers are actually PU coated, so no, there is no point in "feeding" these leathers.

This was pointed out to me by the trim guy at Jay's GTG last summer. He suggested the best cleaners are mild Fairy Liquid solution and rinse and wipe dry. Gliptone is good for imparting that 'new leather' smell

The older Mercs did have 'proper' leather and I'm not sure if the nappa's and Passion leathers have PU coats

So which category does the leather in our 124's come into; the former or the later - it feels pretty good but also a bit plasticky at times.

I use the Turtle Wax leather cleaner as recommended in autoexpress...find it very good...
