I was thinking about my CLS G-E, and despite all the things I love about it, like the smooth, wafty drive, the effortless torque, and all the toys, the best thing about a W219 in Obsidian Black seems to be the sheer road presence that makes other cars get out of the way on the Motorway, without having to "persuade" them to move over.

This is in marked contrast to both my 208 & 209 CLKs, which just didn't have the same presence, despite being lovely cars in their own right.

So, what's the best thing about your Merc?

Adam.

The unique engineering-thoroughness evident in the bits you don't see...

The way the 3 litre V6 Turbo engine manages to feel like a petrol engine, in terms of power dielivery...admittedly making a lot more noise in the process...

The best thing about my CLS is the huge grin it puts on my face every time I press the throttle...

:bannana:

It's not a BMW.

The huge service bills, the exorbitant prices you get charged for plastic bits. the constant worry that my key-fob, SRS, gearbox, Comand system is going to evaporate in a cloud of smoke / steam whilst screeching like an Irish banshee..............other than that..it's a joy...but the best thing is it allows me to look down my nose upon those that drive cars that were born as 'bubble cars' ;)

Brake hold. I do lots of town driving and it's made life a lot easier.

The compliments that it gets , two in the last hour.

One from a lorry driver in the Shell garage and the other from the attendant whilst paying for the fuel.

Vito: Its carrying capacity. It literally huge inside. Its economical and fast for a van
S Class: Its very comfortable, looks great and can do two jobs for me.
C43: It has a V8
C240: A great budget loan car. Costs pennies to run
C270: As above
Viano: Carries 7 people. Very reliable. Good for the chauffeur work.
E220: Incredibly economical and does not go wrong. Also ideal for the chauffeur work.
E55: Budget V8 that will not die.
CLK 350: Roof down motoring at a decent pace.
SL320: Everyday classic motoring.

The serenity of the ride and the sense of occasion.

That and the fact that I have spilled my own blood and the contents of several thousand wallets on restoring it. It's my car in a way no other one will ever be.

Other than the V8 that is both more powerful than my last V8 whilst being a fair bit more fuel efficient?

I love the panoramic roof.

The best thing about my Vito is that it will take two trackbikes, tools, fuel cans, wheels with wets, leathers etc. etc.etc.. to the racetracks.
And it's not a pikey looking Transit.
Hth.
