A friend has been offered a '99 C240 Classic by another friend who's owned the car since new.

Neither they nor I know what it's worth. Could someone with a finger on the market give me a fair price for it as a private sale?

It has done 100K, has a full history, MB for the first 3-4 years then an indy.

£1k-£1.5k depeding on how many rust scabs there are.

Hi Neil,

Do you know what trim spec it is - ie Elegance/Sport etc? Or maybe even just a 'Classic'?

I'd say that much of it's value would depend on condition, W202s have really become cheap now - facelift models for under £1k etc.

I'd say it should be worth anywhere between £1-2k. If it was in absolutely mint condition with no faults, no rust, long MOT, recently serviced, etc maybe a fraction more.

Will,

Sorry, I should have included that.

It's a Classic. Is that MB code for poverty spec?

Yes poverty spec. Have a browse through the PRIVATE ads in autotrade and ebay, but remember these are the advertised prices. Also add some of the ebay auctions to your watch list so you can go back and see what they actually went for.

If it's a classic (low spec model - plastic wheel trims, cheaper trim etc) then probably nearer the lower of these estimates.

How much rust does it have - wheel arches, boot lid, doors etc? Is the air con working 100%?

I think with 100k, it's going to be a shade over a grand unless there's some hidden +ve points that we don't know about.

Also it's the thirsty 240 which isn't going to help, with the current fuel prices etc...:(

Thanks everyone.

The owner of the car is going to be shocked that the car which cost him £26K+ 10 years ago is now worth about 5% of that.

I've got a feeling he'll decide to keep it & drive it into the ground.

if you click on completed listing and log on (if you have not done so already) it brings up a list of what all the listings have completed at,
