Many Saabs and an '03 CLK 240
As per title. What is this next to the ABS unit? Noticed when I started the car up yesterday that there's quite a loud ticking. Further investigation required to see if it does it when the engine's up to temperature.

Also, while I'm here and rather than start a new thread, anyone know where I can source the two trim parts marked in yellow? The car has spent years garaged and there is evidence of mice. Luckily they seem to have confined themselves to destroying these. Especially the lhs.

The clicking thing is the charcoal canister purge valve solenoid.
A charcoal canister catches petrol vapour from the fuel tank vent. When the ECU determines that a suitable point has been reached, the canister fumes are drawn in through the air intake and burned. The clicking is nothing to worry about.
The black foam will be either a dealer part, or acquired from a dismantler, e.g. Dronsfields (not far from you I suspect).

BTW: Is your car really a CLK240 as per your sig, or a CLK500? The under bonnet layout looks the same as mine.

That’s a v6 mate. Your v8 has much less room at the front of the engine.

Car in that picture is left hand drive though, which is curious

Blimey - you're right. That's some powers of observation you've got.
It's also spotless, which mine certainly isn't!

Ian.

The lack of stickers on the slam panel might give a clue as to why it's rust free and spotless on a 20 year old MB. Someone has had the spray can out . I plan to tidy mine up , but I want to replace the original warning stickers at the same time .

Many thanks. Very helpful.

And yes, mine is a 240 but that pic was nabbed off Wikipedia  Mine's a disgrace compared to that one.

And regarding the foam trim, I have since been in touch with a couple of eBay dismantlers I've dealt with previously. Apparently it's popular with rodents and there's a bit of a waiting list!
