I've noticed the following patches on my wheels - is this corrosion?

Presumably MB will laugh very hard in my face if I even bothered speaking to them and refurbing with the same finish is a waste of time as it will re-occur?

What year/mileage is the car?

Mercedes will probably tell you that it's been caused by a stone hitting the wheel and damaging the finish. Regrettably, and by the looks of it, I'd tend to agree with them in this case.

If it's just that one, then a quick rub down and rattle can job could make it presentable again. If all four, potentially time for a refurbishment/refresh by a specialist.

Sorry John, not what you wanted to hear. :(

Yes

Yes.

I had my wheels refurbished recently with much worse corrosion than yours, accepting the fact that salt and stone chips have all the time in the world to win, which they will. Meanwhile my wheels look nice and more importantly no longer leak from the bead mating face.

Car is a 2013/63 plate.

It's happening on all the wheels in different places.

Is it worth bothering with the same finish again or better to change to a harder wearing finish?

i recon you answered your own question john .

I think I will wait until they get shabby and then refurb them.

What finishes last the longest?

My previous E55K wheels stayed looking sharp for a long time after I refurbed them.

Was just researching mobile wheel refurbishing. Yes, lots of companies will come out in their van and sort the wheels. Any recommendations to which companies do a decent job with refurbishing?

That's probably a good alternative.

My wheels aren't kerbed so I guess touching up would be an option.

I had it in mind I would take them to Lepsons and take their advice on the best finish.

They 'look' diamond cut.

Subjectively the strongest finish is power coating.

You can also get some really good colours; I'm currently looking at Smoked Chrome:

Yes they are DC.

I'm not overly enamoured with the finish anyway. Looks a bit "half-finished" to me.

I also wonder how long a repair would last.

I like the idea of powder coating - that's a great colour.

Well what happens if you use a wheel refurb with a van is they will leave your car on axle stands and take the wheels away, all the companies no matter if they have a van service or you need to take the vehicle to their place of business need the wheels for about 4 days, your wheels will have the tyres taken off all the wheel weights and the wheel will be immersed in acid to remove all the paint and corrosion, there are some amazing colours you can have the wheels resprayed in,as your wheels are diamond cut I suspect they will cost about £85 with the vat, many of these companies offer new tyre fitting as well if you were thinking of changing them,I have used Wheel Worx they are very good.
