Has anyone got or know where I can obtain wheel paint for Adharez wheel as fitted to 203 Sport Pack, I believe the colour is Sterling Silver, I only require a small ammount to touch in stone chips.

You could just go to Halfords and buy a touch up stick. That's what I used to do (though slightly more expensive now as they come in some sort of kit).

So basically you go there and grab all the silvers regardless of car and ask if you can take them out to the car park to colour-match. Once you've got the nearest match buy a decent brush, i.e. a small one, as the ones that come in the stick tend to be too fat imho (Halfords do some I think, but I go to WH Smith or an art shop for mine).

I've been advised that the Adharaz wheels aren't a normal silver (like most wheels), but are "Possibly Glasurit TitanSilber Met - 9765" (as advised by nick_mercedes).

The Glasurit site points to this being a Merc wheel paint but doesn't advise on where to purchase from. I've contacted Paints4u with the details of the wheel and colour code and await there reply (which I'll post here).

Anyone else been successful in obtaining a colour that matches these wheels?

Many Thanks, I am also in Preston, perhaps we can share the paint if we ever find the correct colour!

"Sorry brian we have no listing for this colour.

Kind regards
Paul."

Paints4U don't do Merc wheel paint, at least with the information I could give them.

I use a VW paint simply called 'Chrome' which is 99% and good enough for little chips and scratches, comes in the usual VW touch-up kit brush thingy. I can get the code if you need it.

Surely Mercedes must do one too?

How is a High Lustre finish achieved

I've been looking into this myself - and my local stealer says there is no such touch-up kit for wheels.......there is only paint for body colours.

So i asked my contacts in the paint game to look up Glasurit TitanSilber Met - 9765 and was presented with a book of paint chips to look at.

9765 appeared to be a darker shade of silver than my car (Iridium silver) and didn't seem to have that "high lustre" we're searching for.

I had another of my paint contacts take a quick look at my wheels and he suggested that the high lustre finish is acheived with smaller particles of metallic flake, giving more of a fine sheen effect, which isn't found with body panel paints.

On very close inspection, I could see his point - the flakes of metallic are much finer on the wheels compared to the body, but he couldn't offer any further assistance :(

So, now im trying to get some answers from paint suppliers and paint tinting specialists.

It's special paint just for wheels, MB bodyshops may get if from Glasurit, via http://www.morelli.co.uk/

Would any M B bodyshop out there have any of this paint in stock?

They just get it in for specific jobs, as such they don't keep any paint in stock because they mix it on site.

Just visited Glasurit website and found

MERCEDES STERLING SILBER MET9709

I wonder if my paint contacts have this colour and code in their book of paint chips?

Just heard back from my local auto paint supplier who is also able to tint. He says that he cant match the wheel i loaned him - something to do with shade and pigment. He said i would have to paint all 4 wheels to ensure a match.

Back to the drawing board i think :(

Can any MB staff on this forum do some digging around at work and solve this problem?

All formulas for wheel paint shades should be available through Standox as previously mentioned.

Haven't tried standox yet - but just found this info.....

I've just been speaking with BASF Coatings who it would appear would own Glasurit. They have confimed today that the pigment for Sterling Silver 9709 is solvent base and they have not yet developed a water based alternative - hence, they cannot supply this colour to anyone at all, under new legislation.

Standox next - see if i can get an aerosol.....or might even try Halfords:crazy: cos you never know eh.

Standox has no record of Sterling Silver or 9709 :(
