Wheel sealant - which one, and are they worth it?

Elitecarcare is another online car care retailer you can try

Gtechniq C5 - awesome stuff, doing mine later

Uses nano technology, beading and durability is better than anything else out there. I've used their G1 (Glass sealant) on both of our cars and it is truly amazing.

Google C5 and see what comes up!

Having my alloys refurbished, and so I'm keen to keep 'em tip top once back on the car. Thinking of applying a sealant. Two spring to mind:

1. Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal - I like Autoglym stuff and it seems easy to apply being an aerosol.

This really isn't very good.

My wheels will finally get refurbed over next few weeks. I was fed up of waiting for slave wheels (5 months!!) so I've purchased a new set of AMG III for my winter tyres which will enable me to carry on driving during the refurb.

I collected them this evening. I've decided to give them a few coats of Autoglym SRP and EGP. Having read up it seems there's little between a wheel sealant and products designed for bodywork.

If successful, then I'll do the same for the refurbed AMG IV.

Spent the early evening sat on the lawn polishing the new AMG III with Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine and then a coat of Extra Gloss Protection.

The 'Ask an expert' section of the Autoglym website suggests that EGP should only be used with SRP, as it's not designed to work with UDS. I didn't have enough SRP so I thought I'd test it - came out fine.

Booked in to swap the tyres over tomorrow, and hoping to get the AMG IVs to Rimfurbish on Monday.

Get pics of the III's up :)

I'll take a couple tomorrow and get them online.

In the meantime, here it is on the AMG IVs ;)

I wanted to take a few photos when the car was clean, and I had hoped to get the car washed yesterday, but with Mrs D feeling unwell that wasn't going to happen.

So here are a couple of photos taken this morning - still got the lube on the wheels and tyres from fitting, and most of the Peak District all over the body work.

As the wheels are 7.5j ET37 even on the rear (Mercedes recommended winter set up) it does mean the arches aren't filled so nicely compared to the usual 8.5j wheels - you can see it more clearly from this angle:

Photo with my new winter wheels (AMG III) on, but without the liberal coating of Peak District all over the bodywork, and from similar angles to the photos a few posts further 'up' this thread:

I'm really quite pleased with the new look. Me like.

PS Please forgive the iPhone-in-the-dark quality photos :D

Picked up the orginal AMG IV wheels from Rimfurbish this evening - 3 weeks in total.

Had a quick look at each of them. The quality of the work really is very good - a lovely finish that's difficult to find fault with.

I think the give away that it's not the original factory finish is: (i) the shine is too deep and glossy; and (ii) the finish has too much glitter.

How much bobby, if i may ask ?

£218.06 for a set of four, inclusive of VAT. :thumb:

I dropped off and picked up the wheels, and had already removed the tyres and will use my usual tyre fitter for refitting my summer tyres, so there were no extra charges.

Not in a rush to refit though, so I'll give them a good polish/wax/seal first.

ok thanks :)

what sequence are you going to be using for that prep work, ie what polish wax etc, cause it is something i should consider

Did you specify a different paint finish to the original factory finish that contained the extra glitter?

I'll do the same as I did with the new AMG IIIs:

Spent the early evening sat on the lawn polishing the new AMG III with Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine and then a coat of Extra Gloss Protection.

Dee, no I just asked them to get the closest match possible.
