Hi,

Has anyone used spacers to fill out the arch of a W212, with the stock 'sport' 18" wheels?

If so, I wondering if you had any pictures (before/after), and any other info, such as how large they were!

Cheers!

Ed

I've put wheel spacers on pretty well all of my cars.

Never had any problems since I opted for the type that locate on the centre of the wheel rather than relying on the bolts.

I've got 30mm all-round on the ML, and it needs them!

Pics please! :D:D

I'd love to see the stock 18" wheels on a 212 with spacers specifically too, if anyone has them.

Hub-centric

I have 10mm and 15mm on the rears, made by H&R (TUV approved) - never had any problems.

Pictures of the ML with 30mm Spacers.

The rear in particular looks ridiculous without them!

This is with 18" wheels and 285/50 tyres.....

Thanks for the pics! Here's my car with the stock 18" wheels (they're going to be reconditioned soon) - these pics weren't taken to show the wheel spacing, they were taken because I'm a saddo, but they should show it well enough. This might have been taken before I replaced the front tyres with Conti's, which have a chunkier walls (rim protection).

I was thinking 10mm front 15mm rear, H&Rs?

I can take some more useful pics tomorrow. Try to all contain your excitement until then.

(Yes, I have since attained more gravel so, no, I'm not parking in mud!)

Cheers,

Ed

Yes, would look much nicer with a bit more track.

The "Gnat's co*k" rim protection that some tyre makers have is better than nothing, but nothing protects your precious alloys like MUCH wider tyres!

More pics... click to enlarge.

Apologies for the dirt, it's been too cold to wash and as you can see, it's a more 'rural' location. Tomorrow! :)

Looking at it today, I think any more than 10mm front 15mm rear will be a bit 'much'. Just looking for some confirmation/moral support!

Also if anyone knows which bolts I'd need for 10mm and 15mm spacers, that would be great thanks!

On my c class i put 10mm on the front and 12mm wider on the rear, they came with longer bolts and longer locking bolts too so they are still held on safely and securely. They were bought as kits from ebay, just make sure to buy a good quality kit as stated above, if you do buy them separately make sure to get bolts with the curved shoulder as merc use that type

OP head to Ebay and find a guy called M-Tec (or similar). He knows his MB spacers eg on the front of your car you may have a lip on the hub??? He also supplies correct bolts.

And yes they are hub centric.

10 or possible 12 front with 15 vs 20 rear would give you what you seek. Just watch that rears do not force the tyres to be too close to inner arch. NOTE if you source 10mm for front and double pack on a rear it should give you a visual check plus you could bounce the back end to check clearance for 20mm.

is it these?

I was just gonna get the H&R ones, the numbers for a W212 are 2055665 for 10mm per side (front), and 3055665 for 15mm per side (rear).

AFAIK H&R ones don't come with the bolts/nuts so that's why I was asking.

I do not want it to look too crazy or come close to rubbing, just a nice subtle widening that no one would know is not OEM!

Will check out M-tech, thank you!

FWIW I did some research and it turns out that you have to list this as a modification with your insurer. So that's fun.

I called my insurer today (esure) and they said they wouldn't cover me for spacers. They were also by far the cheapest insurer, so I don't really fancy changing. So that's that.

Insurance will be the death of the go-faster industry....

This is the same insurers that reduce their quoted price if you enquire 21 days before renewal, and put it up if you have a Hotmail email account!

I'm sure there's solid business reasons for this, but it doesn't "make sense" at all....

Funnily enough, esure WILL ensure me for a remap, for £93 extra.

If I'd let my insurance auto-renew a month ago, they'd have put up my insurance from about £600 to £670 (that's the monthly price).

I did a new search via confused.com and they were the cheapest insurer, this time offering me ~£360 (from memory)! All other details the same, but an extra year's NCB.

They wouldn't change the policy, I had to cancel the old one, and start a new one, with them. So they tried to simply 'do me' for £300.

There's no sense to it sometimes, the algorithm has a mind of its own.

Next year at renewal time, I'll check out a quote from Adrian Flux.
