I've got a quite viscous vibration coming through the steering wheel at approx 60mph. Below or above it it is not really noticeable but at or around 60mph there is a lot of kickback through the wheel and it is very visably shaking. I had my tyres balanced this morning but it is still there and has made no impression.

I've only just bought the car and had it MOT'd & taxed on Saturday, but the car has been standing for approx 2 years, do you think that the tyres have 'gone off' or is this maybe a suspension/arm/bush issue? Has anybody else had a similar issue that hasn't been cured by re-balancing the wheels?

I think the standing for 2 years is your problem. The tyres may improve with more running-getting them really hot would be a good idea but renewal is probably safest. You could also try changing the steering damper ( small shock absorber on the steering linkage) will help disguise but not eliminate the cause of the vibrations. That's after you have made a close inspection of all the suspension bushes, track rod ends and wheel bearings.

Yeah, I think you are probably right. I read that the P Zero Neros that are on their are known to create a flat spot if left for a month, so 2 years has probably yaken its toll. The bushes seem fine, both my mechanic and MOT station said everything was in very good order.....

Having had a further read of many posts, I see that it could be any number of problems:- Bushes, ball joints, steering dampers, brake discs & calipers, prop mounts........it all seems a little worrying that there is the potential to be changing a lot of parts to remove the wobble/vibration, I suppose as with a lot of things there isn't a quick fix :(

Throw the tyres away and fit some new ones

Don't rule out balencing yet. I had this, and had the wheels balanced a second time. It made a lot of difference. Also it could well be a tyre - again I had a tyre which was no longer round - it had dipped on one side. I would not have picked it up.

If you can find a friendly and knowledgeable tyre garage it will go a long way to helping you rule out these.

Well, the wobble seems to have lessened a lot over the past day of driving, I guess it is helping driving it about everywhere. It could be a combination of tyres heating up and the brakes bedding in from lack of use. I can just about live with it now but have purchased a new steering damper and will go through a process of elimination over the next couple of months as I replace the tyres, ball joints, discs & pads and re-new prop mounts/damper.

Here's hoping and thanks for your help.
