Hi all,

Can anyone help?

My recently retired parents bought a tidy looking 320ce thinking it would see them through to the end of their driving days, however, the head gasket has just gone and the mechanic has just pointed out thefact that the engine bay loom insulation is heavily degrading! He's been quoted £800! Can I get one cheaper anywhere? Or does anyone make them?

Cheers

Ed

give Mercedes Eastbourne a call

01323 465030

Ask to speak to Dennis (the number above is a direct line to the parts department), tell him you are a member of MB club and that you know me :)

They offered us a group discount (17.5%) which puts the price of the loom (depending on what options you have fitted) down to about £500

no worries - they'll order one for you based on your chassis number and generally get them shipped out in a couple of days - of course, if you are local, you can collect.

Near birmingham unfortunately.

Thanks for the info!

Next problem to sort is the corrosion on the front wings don't suppose Merc acknowledged that as a fault!?

They'll acknowledge it as a design fault but tell you that if you'd kept up your full service history they would clear out the muck which gathers in the wing joints and causes the rust

They'd also tell you that your car is now at leat 12 years old and that any bodywork guarantee ran out years ago.

again, if you had a full service history your local dealer would prbably come to some arrangement with you but don't expect anything from MB themselves

Have MB made any comment or standing on the degrading loom issue?

I'm really still quite shocked about this!

you must rememebr that most of these cars are now 15/20 years old and were supplied at a time when a two year warranty would be unusual .

If you'd kept up a full dealer service history then they would probably have met you half way or fitted it for free.

However, every time you service the car yourself you save money over what the dealers would charge you so you are probably in profit:)

Yeah, swings and roundabouts!

Ordered today £577 delivered.

Cheers for the help.
