Where specifically in the north west? There's lots of good independent Merc specialists.

Supercars come with supercar maintenance costs. An indy will still cost a fair bit.

What service does it need ?

I reckon with the sls to keep its value 100% , you'll need to keep it serviced with Merc.

What type of service is that? £800 would clearly be crazy for an oil change, but I bet many of us have spent close to that on a major service for more humble cars. As already mentioned you may find that future buyers won't be impressed by non-dealer servicing on a flagship model.

its at 22k service, but they didn't say which one, it did however have a free health check 500 miles ago and nothing at all was found to be wrong, (which I found unusual for merc)
there isn't a service book with them, they say it all prints out on the invoice, what its had before.
So I guess that's another way of gripping your plumbs...

How do you know it needs a service? If it's via the instrument cluster is it saying "Service A", "Service B" or something similar?

So replace oil and brake fluid, new oil and air filters, new wiper blades. Plus a load of visual checks. I'm guessing the design of the car means there's more labour than normal involved in some of these though (e.g. wheels need to be removed to check brake discs & pads).

Are there any other M-B dealers in the ares you can get a quote from?

Trying to save a few £s on service costs you'll be loosing many £ks come sale time.

It's an SLS, if you can afford to buy it you should be able to service it and run it, otherwise you'll never really enjoy it IMHO

Sounds about right for a car like that, surely £800 isn't a problem?

If money is tight- go for a service plan. If you think it needs a service, your car should have told you by now. Flick through the dash menu and it will say which service is due

I'd expect to see a full MBSH on such a car if I was ever to buy one, otherwise I'd be haggling on price if it went to an Indy- and no that's no bad comment about any indies, but a car so young I'd want dealership history. Maybe Indy after seven or so years

Blimey, the OP was only asking if anyone knew of anywhere to save a few quid!

Just because he can afford the car doesn't mean he has to pay out willy nilly for everything. Give him a break, he didn't say he couldn't afford the service, merely asking if there was any cheaper option.

Saving a few quid in these circumstances is going to an Indy which for this particular car is a no go. The dealers will all be similar priced for this car.

No one is having a go, mearly saying it is in his best interests long term to keep the car in the dealer network.

The irony of these "you can afford the car so it can't be a problem" posts is that SLS costs less that pretty much any MB sold today. It doesn't depreciate. In fact it may even be appreciating.

Over a 12 month period it probably costs more to run an A180CDi if depreciation is considered.

    Whinge over.

I read the posts as the OP checking if he was being ripped off for something unnecessary rather than it being an affordability issue.

Normally I'd say no. Once out of warranty I'd go independent.

However this car is different and a full MB service history for life on an SLS could be disproportionately valuable in the future.

I figure in this instance it's worth paying the £800. However I'd try a few dealer first rather than take the first quote.

I agree, but saying things like: "surely £800 isn't a problem?" :dk:

we shouldn't assume because the OP runs this car that £800 isn't a problem. None of us know details of each other's financial circumstances.

^^^^was the point I was making. :thumb:
