Where does the Fibre go?

Hello everyone,

I understand that if you have extras on your car then you have Fibre optics running throughout the car conecting everything.

I have a S203 with audio 20 and have retrofitted an Ipod kit. I have started buying up bits here and there with the end goal of having Comand, phone, voice control and a cd changer.

My question is this, where does all the fibre go? Does it have to go into each "box" in a certain order? And then if they are all connected, how does it speak to the car? :dk:

Anyone know how this all works? And also, where do I get the correct fibre optics and additional wiring looms from? If I went to MB and said I need a bit to connect A with B, would they know what I was on about?

Many thanks

Hi, does the ipod kit work yet?

Because you will need fibre to make that work, you will also need to get the car coded by someone with STAR to tell the car that a phone is present (even if it's not) as the telephone buttons on the steering wheel are how you control the ipod.

If your car has fibre, they will be the 2 oranges cables going into the top right hand corner of the large connector on the back of the audio 20. You have to carefully remove these from the original connector and place them into the corresponding holes in the adapter that is part of the ipod interface and now plugs into the audio 20 (or COMAND when you get it) There is a small lug that needs easing back to allow removal of the fibre. Be careful with this and do not let it get kinked (no jokes here Baron Samedi!) when you are refitting the unit as they are quite easily damaged.

For other items there is a preferred order on the fibre MOST ring, and some good information is available here, including some part numbers:
Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits

some of the bits you may need are available here:
Comand Online Ltd

Good Luck

Thanks Pos.k,

I should have added that I have had the phone enabled so the Ipod works with the phone buttons on the steering wheel.

Cheers,

DME
