hello guys u have an s430 w220 and my fan is not working.
i checked fuses.
checked the fan motor. so fan itself is working..
now time to check the auxilary fan controller.
where can i find it.
so far i found that it is on the passenger side somewhere around the wing.
how can i approach it.. from the top or bottom.

Which fan?
Heater blower or front radiator A/C fan.?

~Is your A/C fully charged if the latter?

i meant radiator fan..
my a/c is probably not charged at all.
will be next week

The A/C fan will only work if your A/C switches on. Your A/C will not switch on if the system is below pressure. If I were you I would wait until you have the A/C recharged before looking deeper into the fan issue.

So, even if you have the A/C switched on inside the car the system will not cool or operate if it is below pressure. Therefore, the fan will not start.

HTH

yes. but.. one more issue
the rad fan does not work at all. i dont think that because the system might be empty the fan will operate normaly to cool the engine down. as because now it is not working at all.

what you want to tell me is:
when a/c system is empty the car will oveheat??

Have you allowed the car to reach temperature in order that the fan should switch on?

i did. temperature went to about 120 degrees .still no move
maybe i dont know much about MB but im not complete useless with cars.

i have been told that there is two fuses and relay responsible for fan .
but i cannot find relay on the charts.
i also am not sure where is the aux fan control unit.
as i would like to check/change that.

I just realize one thing about my problem.
I don't want to open another thread.
When I bought a car the fan was working all the time.
I mean after I turn ignition on the fan was turning all the time. Even with cold engine.
Then I went to seaside. About 60 miles and when I stoped at the shop carparkturn the car off the fan carried on to work to cool down engine.
When I come back from the shop it was off. Then about a week of short journeys that didn't let the engine to warm up I went for a longer journeywhenthe fan probably stopped working.

The reason why I'm writing it all down is.. why the fan was working all the time withthe ignition on. Maybe previous owner bypas the aux controll fan?? As because I found one unit in the trunk when I bought it

Any thoughts?

well. today after work..
i took the bottom cover off and with a good light i started to look for auxilary fan controller..
and only to find out that some fricking magicians where there.
on the plug where the computer supposed to be there is a relay with the most of the bottom pins bend plugged into a controller socket and some wires to bypass it..

i reckon it only stopped working because the relay died.

so now the sad part..
is it only from MB dealer that i can buy one.
or some companies do the fake ones cheaper.
what is the cost of the unit in the MB dealer

sorted!!!!!
new controll unit from MB dealer 163 pounds.. fan is working again.
