I am about to advertise my R129 SL320 Mercedes and started to draft an ad in auto trader, it costs £37 for a 2 week standard ad, is this still seen as the best place to advertise cars and best value for money?
Cheers

I buy and sell cars. Cars up to £3k I sell on gumtree, anything above that value I use auto trader, always sells

Although I was very much against it in the early days, ebay is great for buying and selling cars. Where else can you vet the person you are about to trade with?

Anything but auto trader, terrible terrible experience.

By Googling landline and mobile numbers, I reported a trade seller, selling as a private individual on Auto Trader. No action taken at all.
Also, when I have enquired about vehicles, the response time has been poor.

I have had good success with Classified Ad's on EBAY, I don't do the auction stuff.

1) Fixed price 17quid I think, no final value fees or any of that that stuff
2) You can create a good advert with no restriction on number of words/pictures etc
3) You can to a certain extent vet those by looking at a buyers history

IMHO Autotrader is expensive, and antiquated now.

Surprised not to see a mention of Pistonheads - any reason why?

Agreed. I sold our Vito for around £13,000 and the cost was (IIRC) £34 with a classified ad.
People still made offers, so you could gauge the market rate and consequently have a very good idea if you had priced sensibly or not.
Buyers are still able to send messages too. Way to go I would say.

The classified adverts HERE on our own website are free and targeted at Mercedes enthusiasts .

The membership of the official club is also a good target audience and , even if not a member , the fee to join is about the same cost as your two week ad on Autotrader . Once a club member , you can also place ( for a charge ) a classified ad in The Mercedes-Benz Club Gazzette , which goes out to around 10,000 members , many of whom are not Internet users , so a different audience but still good prospective buyers - I bought one of my 190's through a Gazette ad . Adverts in the classified section of the club website , as with this one , are free and , although a smaller audience than here , there are many SL owners in the official club , so a very good buyer profile over there .

Both club website classified ads will stay up as long as you want .

Car and Classic is a good place to advertise cars of that type - I found my 500SEL there , although the vendor turned out to be a fellow member of the official club and known to mutual friends , so I was instantly at ease dealing with him .

Oh , and don't forget Mercedes Enthusiast magazine which has a good readership .

Autotrader is the most powerful but the last time I put a car on there I got so many pointless texts and phone calls from people that weren't at all serious and offering stupid money. I like ebay but it doesn't have the power of autotrader.

Use them all to get the best coverage but IMO Ebay gives you the best results.
Not an auction, just a classified ad.

eBay is huge compared to AT, also you dont need to join up just to sell a car/buy a car as the vast majorty of people already have an account.

Put a car on eBay yesterday afternoon and just sold it twenty minutes ago...

If you can deal with the nutters, dreamers and time wasters it's the best of the bunch IMO, it's just the odd few that try and ruin it.

I have great success with Classified Ad's on EBAY too.

Have auctioned cheaper cars on there too (less than £2k) without any issues. For your R129 an eBay classified ad is perfect. No restrictions on the length of advert / text.

Also like SPX, the last car I sold via an eBay classified ad (our W203) went within minutes!
