So I bought my CL55 AMG almost 5 years ago, I knew it was clocked when I had bought it and at the time it had done over 170k miles (I know this as it had full mbsh up until about 6 months before I bought it and the last service it recieved was at 161k).

I have since covered around 50k miles and other than regular oil changes and fixing the odd broken thing I've not done much to it, at well over 200k miles it's still going strong but could do with some love so.....

Recently when changing the ABC pump, one of the brackets broke off the timing case cover, this called for the timing case cover to come off and be replaced so in the process I have changed:

The timing cover
The water pump
The belt tensioner
ABC PUMP rebuilt
Cam covers resealed as they were leaking oil anyway
New oil vapour pipes

While the timing and cam covers were off we had a **** it moment and decided to take the heads off, and change the head gaskets and spark plugs while we were there!

The bit that broke off the timing case:

So here is the first head after a bit of a clean up, spark plugs will be a lot easier to install like this ;)....

More pics in the coming days as I progress!

Nice work , are you going to change the timing chain and gears while you got the cover off ?

Apparently, the dishwasher brings parts up like new but I will deny ever mentioning it.:D

I bet the wife was pleased to see that head on her kitchen worktop:eek::wallbash:

Not quite wife yet, getting married in July so I can get away with stuf like this for another 6 months! May aswell make the most of it lol!

Don't forget, a man is incomplete until he's married.....

Then he's finished!!:devil::devil:

Be careful with dishwashers. They have salt in to soften the water. Salty water and aluminium don't go well together.

Cleaned everything up in a degreaser bath!

Plugs are much easier to change when the heads are off!

Just waiting for the timing kit now so we can set it up (if anyone round Cambridge has one and wants to let me borrow it before Tuesday that would speed things up!), inlet manifold will probably go back on tomorrow if I get time.
