I really need some help here, my home pc crashed the other night with a message "bootmgr is missing" it was partitioned 110gb running XP and 50gb running Vista, all my documents/photos etc are on the XP partition and i really need them back, anyway i've managed to reinstall XP on the Vista partition so i'm back up and running, now my PC thinks the HDD is only 50gb so i pressume I've still got my 110gb on the HDD but i can't access it, has anyone got any ideas? any help would be much appreciated but take it easy with me being a PC novice, thanks Chris

You should use your XP install disk and use the 'repair' option on the 110Gb partition.

Once you have done that you should be presented with 2 lots of Windows XP to boot from at the start menu.

chances are if you do a install on the currently lost partition, you will lose the data. Reason is that if the OS currently can not see the partition, then the new instal;l will recreate it, and format the HD.

First thing to try though is go to my comp, right click get MANAGE, then look at disk manager, you will see your lost partition there, you may be able to bring it back online or import failed partition, DO NOT create partition or format.

To be safe, get a cheap hd and install xp, then use file recovery tools to see what files you can find

Thanks I did try this but it asked me for a password and i know i havent put one in, however it does give me 2 sets of windows to choose from so i know it's still there but without this password i cant get any further, i've tried "admin" "password" and when i left it blank and pressed enter it gave me the drive letter command prompt but i have no idea what to do after that.
