Which Antifreeze ?

I plan to change the thermostat on the ML 270 this weekend. The price for a gen MB stat looks good as its not much more than the Euro carparts price, I assume that the MB one will come with the seal.

Now what antifreeze do I use, I think its RED type and if so will Halfords do, looked on the MB parts website and under antifreeze the prices appear to be on the tad high compared to the high street. Is there any difference between MB and a branded product?

I'd use the MB coolant - I didn't think it was particularly expensive (circa £20 for 5 litres) and as you'll be in there anyway...

Having recently seen the effects of coolant systems that have become compromised with scale/sludge buildup, I'm not sure I'd bother looking for a cheap option.

If the current and new coolant types are different, I would recommend flushing and draining the system thoroughly before refilling too
