My brake pad warning light has started to show intermittently - i checked the pads a week ago or so and there low but ok. Can anyone confirm if this light is also used to signify low brake fluid ?

If so does any one know the brake fluid spec ( Dot 3 ect ) for a 1998 W208 230K ?

Thanks in advance

Gareth

The light is used to signify anything wrong with brakes from low brake fliuid to air in the system, to low pads

As far as I know the light only works on the front pads, as there are no sensoors on the rear.

The light signifies that the fluid in the reservoir is getting low or pad wear. Don't you get a warning on the display as well?

If the pads are worn the system will require more fluid and when new pads are fitted the level will be correct again.

There should be sensors all round for the pad lining check but have a quick look anyway.

If you need to top the reservoir use Dot 4 fliud from a new can.

It's probably due a change anyway as it should be done every two years.

As previously mentioned, it could be low fluid level, most likely because the pads are getting low. Equally, it could be pad warning sensor, since it makes an earth through the disc to bring the light on, and often comes on intermittantly when you are braking, if the sensor has only just worn through. Merc sensors are suprisingly conservative about how much pad is left when the light comes on. Although you may seem to have a good amount of pad left, if you take them out you will probably find the warning sensor has been reached.

Thanks for your replys guys ..... roll on the clock change when you can check these things out after finishing work !
