I'm thinking of updating my COMAND navigation disc, which I know can be fraught with problems reading other threads here. My (dumb?) questions are firstly, is APS the same as NTG1, or are there different versions of it, ie APS NTG2.5 etc? I've looked at comandonline's website, and the description there of APS fits that of NTG1, which mine is.

Secondly, does TMC work universally, or does it only work in the country it's intended for, and therefore identified by designated lettering, such as GB?

Thanks in advance.

COMAND - All about COMAND

If your S211 is pre-2009MY, it'll be NTG1 (no SD slot above the CD slot).

TMC works by including data on a designated FM radio station. To fit the information into a tiny data stream, supported countries' road networks are divided into "sections" of road, typically between junctions. These sections are stored in "TMC tables" and referred to in the traffic data. I'd imagine that the car knows what country it's in from the nav and uses that information to select the correct radio station for the data. Thus, you won't be able to get French traffic info in the UK, but once you dock in Calais it'll start picking it up.

This is the latest disc for your system:

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: Mercedes Navigation Disks :: Comand APS Map DVD Europe 2011/2012 (V12.0) for E (W211), SL, SLK, Maybach, S (W220), CL (W215), CLS

...and has TMC coverage (that is, tables and radio station data) for UK (GB), A, B, CH, D, DK, E, F, GB, I, N, NL, S.
