which engine?

Thinking about a 1 year old C class estate but cant pick the engine.

It must be auto as Im lazy so if i go for the 350cdi i get a 7 speed box and the 250cdi i get a 5 speed box...... which one is best would be my question? i cant imagine the c250cdi with auto box is that frugal?

I'd go for the 350, lots of easy torque.

The 350CDi uses 20% more fuel for 10% more power. So if company car tax is an issue the 250CDi looks a good package.

Depends what is important to you,if you do a lot of miles & are not to bothered about the 10% extra power the 350 unit gives you then the 250 will cost less in diesel,as far as the 7g autobox over the 5 speed one i personally love the 7g but ask others on here & you will get mixed views,it all comes down to personal choice

ill have to find a dealer that will let me play in one after the other and see which is preferable. the way fuel is going i can see myself going for a vw lupo blue motion

Check other threads on here and t'other side about MPG for BE engines - seems a lot of people are getting nowhere near the published figures, especially those that do lots of short runs. Seems regeneration of the DPF might be the culprit. Just been reading a thread on t'other side where a guy is getting below 30mpg from an E350cdi BE!
