Which facelift would you go for out of these?

I need a little advice, I am looking for a facelift C-class estate and I have found 2 that have taken my fancy.

The first is a c230K auto elegance SE in dark red metallic and black leather, with 16" wheels. (which I would want to change when new tyres are needed)
£23,500

The second is a c180K auto classic SE with the sport pack in silver with the black mb tex that comes with the sport, and the sports wheels etc.
£22,000

I much prefer the look of the C180K because of the sport pack, but I am coming from a 2.5tdi A4 avant, and that thing pulls like a train, the c180k is only a second slower than I have now but I am worried it will feel really sluggish.

What would you do?

I'd go for the C230, I'm sure you'll never regret it when you put your foot down. The Elegance SE spec should also be better than classic.

You could always wait and hold out for a C230 with sports pack if that's what you really want.

ps someone will be along in a minute to say go for the C230 just because its not Silver - but just ignore them :D

Don't go for the C230 - its not Silver !

You do realise, of course, that its exactly the same engine in both cars, and just a bit of clever tuning / other minor bits that make the C230K faster ??

I much prefer the look of the C180K because of the sport pack, but I am coming from a 2.5tdi A4 avant, and that thing pulls like a train, the c180k is only a second slower than I have now but I am worried it will feel really sluggish.

Solely from a re-sale point, the MB-Tex is not popular with dealers, but once again it must rest on what you like. Performance wise both are acceptable, but obviously one is better than the other. If you are in any doubt, have an extended test drive in the C180K.

It's a great pity your dealer cannot locate an Avantgarde version of your particular model.

John

Yeah I realised that about the engines, I wish they were closer to me so I could see them both.

I am in a bit of a quandry at the moment, I sold my ML and bought an A4 2.5tdi avant with 50,000 miles on it in May and I already have it at 67k miles, it is a great car but I fancy getting somthing that is a little newer and has some warranty etc.

I was looking at a new C estate but it worked out a little too much money by the time I had added, sport pack, auto etc. and there was no ex demo cars last month, so I took an A3 sportback out and really really liked it.

I have specced one up as follows
A3 2.0tdi sportback Black
Aluminum roof rails
DSG gearbox
Alcantara interior
interior light package
auto wipers/light
Sat Nav + (dvd widscreen display with memory card slots for MP3s)
This came to £25100 and got them down to £23600

But I just had another look on autotrader and ther are now a few C facelift estates about, and at a price I can afford (well I say afford, I should really buy a £2k scrapper :) )

The other thing is the c230k is on an '04 plate with 9000 miles and the c180k sport is on a '54 plate with 3000 miles and it is local.

Can the new Nav be retrofitted yet ?

edit: so the dealers are not that keen on the faux leather? interesting, thanks

Thanks for the replies so far, appreciated.

Just rang MB cambridge to get a drive in the C180K sport and they siad that I wouldn't be able to have the car till December as they have only just put it on the road. Why advertise it already then?

So I am going to try and see if I can get the C230K down a little in price, never bought a car without trying one before but can't see me being dissapointed.

I would never buy a car that I have not driven?????

Having haggled the price down, make it subject to test drive before you settle. ;)

I have driven a c200k with sport pack and that was OK, and I would obviously want to take it out for a good hour before giving any money over.

But normally I have driven the actual car in question before I get serious.

DON'T buy a titinite red one unless they are giving you loads off it..

As why dealers don't like MB Twin ... ive got no idea why ... Its like leather without the cost .. i defy anyone to be able to look at the SEATS and tell the diference.

So titinite red is a no no then?

The search contines :)

It's a buyer's market for cars - and will be when you come to part with it in the future.

As I (and maybe others!) have said, don't settle for second best, you'll only regret it either now, or further down the line! ;)

Make sure you choose exactly what you are looking for, and stick to it. :bannana:

Find one, make sure it is up to scratch, and then try and knock a few £££s off if possible  (if you don't ask, you don't get).

When you have located the right car, at the right price, you will 99.9% be guaranteed happiness, and are less likely to sell up earlier than planned (think about your Audi!). ;)

Remember, don't rush, take your time for the car that you want. Maybe extend the goal posts ever-so-slightly if you cannot wait any longer, or if you find something that is 99% what you are after, but don't be talked into buying the wrong car!

Good Luck, :)

Will

If I were you I would go for the facelift car over the pre-facelift, I test drove the pre-facelift last year and compared to the facelift one there is no comparison. I ended up with a 3 series!! The steering now has greater feel better body control and the whole car feels more stable. Then there is the interior which again is a real leap forward better materials and overall more classy.

The C180K with sports pack is well worth waiting out for IMO is only £690 extra on top of a Classic SE and a real head turner. I don't suppose it will come with the MB leather twin as well? Which is another worthwhile option at £300? I do have some pictures of my C200K Advantgarde with sports + MB leather in the gallery. It is a saloon but gives you a good idea.
