A quick look on google reveals that many companies are offering HPI checks at widely varying prices. Do they all make the same checks?

www.hpicheck.com costs £20
www.mycarcheck.com costs only £3.95

At the moment I can't think of a reason to spend the extra on a check from HPI when the other one seems to do enough for only £4.

Does anybody have a view?

We use HPI now even though it is more expensive.

A few years ago we used experian however we had many problems with incorrect data from the wrong colour being listed down to real big problems like incorrect VIN's, VCAR history and Finance issues.

As a retailer we just couldnt afford to take the risk so now, we do HPI only on an account and also pay the extra for the indemnity they offer.

With the HPI check from hpicheck.com, you get 7 days free comp. insurance.

Worth it IMHO

Who get's the indemnity cover, you or the new owner.? They have to buy their own to get their own cover, don't they.?

Basically dieselman, we get the indemnity cover but this is then passed to the new owner via the dealer as they are guaranteeing their information to us so that we may sell the car with confidence.

Say for example, a customer buys a car from us for £10,000 and then a year later a an insurance company says it should have been on VCAR, HPI return the customer £10,000 and the car becomes the property of HPI.

The indemnity is a return to invoice cover so in effect, a customer could profit from it.

I always thought the indemnity wasn't transferable, mainly because of this wording on their website.

You need to carry out the HPI Check yourself, before you buy the vehicle - the Guarantee is not transferable.

Either way, I'd get my own done as without it the buyer would have to sue the trader, if they didn't want to refund the whole value and were still in business.

If not then that's it..gone..
