Evening all,
just checked my oil and I have hardly any showing on the stick, been looking on the forum and don’t want to start a debate regarding 0w vs 5w, my question is, is this oil suitable for my 2014 E63?

You need an oil that meets MB Spec Sheet 229.5.

Some AMG owners use only Mobil1, but this is a matter of personal choice.

Other good brands are MB-branded motor oil, and Shell Helix Ultra.

As for 0W-40 vs 5W-40.... I would say 5W-40, unless you live in Scotland. And BTW, 0W-40 / 229.5 is not very common anyway.

Thanks for the reply MarkJay, going to go with this then-

I'd use the Castrol Edge 5w/40.
The main dealers put their own branded 5w/40 in my 2014 E63 last service.

RE: Castrol - Don't know if its the 5.5 you have but you would need 3 of these at it takes 8.5 litres of oil

Excellent price mind.

Dealer puts 5/40W Shell Helix Ultra in mine so I get it from Eurocarparts when its on offer (5 litres Cans so just 2)

I had Shell Helix Ultra used by the dealer in the past, but in recent years MB Brooklands (who are owned by MB) have been using Petronas. In the past they used to offer Mobil1 to AMG owners I think, not sure if they still do that.

I just bought the 0w-40 version of this from Amazon.
I recently had a service and they used 0w-40 so I thought best to stick with that.
I don't get why there is ambiguity about 5w vs 0w and different dealers use one or the other....?

Mostly, because given UK's weather, it doesn't really matter much.

I would say that if you live in Scotland, go for the Ow, if you live in the South, go for the 5w, anything in between makes no real difference.....

I guess I'm in between, so that's reassuring :)

So many to choose from, Fuchs oil is well regarded.

Why search for oil for a jaguar , when its info on an e63 you needed ?

Mercedes AMG high perfromance oil MB 229.5. I Bought 10L online directly from Mercedes in Newcastle and it cost just over 70 pounds. For an additional £1.50, it was delivered within 24 hours.

So Lidl today had 1 litre bottles of Petronas Syntium Fully Synthetic 5W-40 (MB 229.5) oil £7 each but 2 for £10 so 10 litres for £50...bargain??

Not really, can be had for just under that direct from Mercedes, albeit out of stock at the moment.
