Can anyone help?

We went to our local Mercedes dealer and they were not very definite about which oil we should be using..... should we use semi synthetic or fully synthetic and which grade should we use?

Used semi synthetic in the E300 D W124 but not sure at all about the W210

Im confused now..

Thanks for any help

Regards
Bev

You will not get the same answer from different dealers. I got several responses when I supplied my own oil for the GL service. The dealer that did the work told me semi synth, so that is what I bought. The view on here was that it should have been fully synth.

Thanks Peter for your quick response... Anyone else with any views?

The correct spec is 10W-40 that meets or exceeds MB 229.3.

My personal preference would be a diesel specific, synthetic oil.

Castrol don't seem to do one

Ive check with the Castrol website and there is not a 10 / 40 fully synthetic oil meeting mb 229.1 or higher

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Mobil Synt 5w 40

Ive found that the above oil meets MB 229.3 (as stated on the Mobil Tech Sheet)

So is this definitely ok to use in the W210 300 TD engine?

Sorry for so many questions but i'll be changing the oil tomorrow and don't want to use the wrong stuff!

Thanks again

Hi

Mobil 1 Turbodiesel Fully synthetic is what I use and have had no problems at all. Changed at 10,000 actual miles regardless of what the service indicator says for the past 140,000 miles.

i use 10w40 semi synth in my E300D. its a 124 but is the same 606 engine as yours. i would happily opt for fully synth though but as i change the oil quite regually (run the car on veg) i tend to put in Halfords own brand.

Sorry, my mistake, it should be MB spec 228.3 or better. Most semi-synth or full synth should meet or exceed this spec.
Don't go for lighter than a xxW-40 weight oil as that gives better protection when hot.

Have been using mobil -1 in my e55amg and previously in m5 as well .530 diesel bmw my wife has ,uses castrol with no problems

The OP can use semi or full synthetic, 10w-40, 5w-40, 0w-40 or 5w-30.

Synthetic is the better quality choice.

Cheers

Guy

We have two W210 E300TDs.
Always use Millers XFE 10/40 Semi-Synth.
Change it every 10,000 miles on mine and every 12 months on Mrs J's (who does less miles).
This oil meets MB 228.3.
