It's been a while since I've had to change routers, and now I'm in the unfortunate situation where one of my housemates is hogging the bandwidth.
Short of asking him to leave, I'm going to try to solve the problem from a technical standpoint... so I'm changing my router.
I need something that will:
-Assign IPs based on a static list of MAC addresses (I know, they can be spoofed, but it's a start)
- Monitor and throttle bandwidth (both up and down) on a per-IP basis
(QoS would be nice too, but not necessary. Telling everyone that they have 10 down up and 1 meg up assigned to them would make life nice and easy).
A few years ago, the Linksys WRT54g running custom firmware would have been the way forward. Is that still the case? If so, which distro do you recomend?
