Hi there, i'm reasonably competent mechanically and i've always worked on my own VWs however i am finding that i'm constantly caught out by needing certain tools to work on my w210.

It's a w210 E320 with the V6 engine and next weekend i intend to change the spark plugs, air filter, oil and oil filter, if i get time possibly the fuel filter too.

Having done a bit of research it appears that i need an angled 17mm spanner to change the spark plugs, where would you recommend that i buy one from or is MB the only place to purchase it? I have the usual Halfords, GSF and smaller motor factors near me, no ECP. I can always buy off the internet or machine mart etc.

So, to do the above jobs, what unique tools will i need? thanks!

To change the oil filter you'll need a tool to remove the cover - I've got the MB workshop one (bought it years ago, only a tenner or so from memory), or you could probably get one similar from some other source. It's just like a massive socket that sits over the cover to undo it.

No idea on the plug change other than the rear plugs are a bit more fiddly to get to!

I just used a std 17mm spanner to prise the caps of on my E430 and a short 17mm to push them back on, bloody stiff to get them to snap back on, if you can pull them of by hand they are not on properly.

I found the best spark plug tool was the one supplied in the tool kit.

I didn't know there was one. :o In fact, I'm not sure I've ever looked in my Merc's toolkit...
