A very simple one.....Which will last longer on an R230, SL500-Pirelli Pzeros or Conti Sport Contact 3s?

I can't answer specifically, but generally speaking my experience was that Pzeros are soft while Contis last longer.

Not a direct answer, but the P Zeros lasted 7000 miles on a CLK280 and the Conti's lasted 12000 on a CLS320 with far more torque.

I'd bet the Conti's.

They should all have a wear rating on the sidewall.

I was persuaded that for the extra couple of quid that michelins would be better on my E320 Sport, alas I didnt keep the car long enough to confirm one way of the other. Apparently, this has been a long lasting argument but not proven either way!

An SL owner myself I would be very interested to hear comments but with evidence of claims, please.

I have Conti SC3 on the rears of my CLS55 .. in about 10k miles, it's just over half worn.

Am stunned.

Seem to remember the dealer claiming that standard Cont would do about 15k but Michelins about 20k, a lot of the wear is obviously down to the way the individual drives the car!

defo contis for more wear, pirellis for better dry grip and michelins for a compramise of all!

They should all have a wear rating on the sidewall.

What does the wear rating look like? I am looking for tyres myself and wondered if it is possible to discern which will last longer by some code on the sidewall.

I think the code you want is 'Continental' :D

Or just buy Falken ZE912's for a fraction of the price. You will not notice any difference in wear or grip levels and will be amazed at how much money you can save.

One of the main problems with Falkens is how noisy they are imo, but if you can put up with that they are considerably cheaper!

You might be thinking of the 452's, the 912's are no noisier than any of the big names. I rate them better than the Bridgestone Potenzas they replaced.
