Which Tyres To Go For?

Hi All,

I will soon be installing 18' AMG II (Staggered) Alloy wheels onto my 1998 W202 C230 Kompressor Sport.

I require a set of tyres and have been looking at my options and would love some help from anyone who has either had this kind of setup before and which tyres would be best.

I have a budget of about £420 for the tyres and have been looking at the option of hunting down very good slightly worn tyres also.

Also what would the correct load rating and speed rating be for this setup as ive found this makes a difference in the cost.

look at Falken 452 from Camskill

Did read a review on them but apparently they are noisy!?

I do like the pattern and the look of the tyre tho.

Get very good responses here from users - have a search.

It's what I aim to fit on the S Class ..........

I have the same staggered set up on my CLK and I must be honest having raced for the last 30 years there is a lot of BS talked about tyres. I was going to replace mine with Falken 452's have used them before and they are a great all round tyre, however this time I went a bit radical and took a gamble which I think has paid of (so far).

Last year I needed some new tyres on the scooby for an event during which I knew they were going to get scrubbed and be useless by the end of it so I bought a cheap set of Nankang NS2. I was amazed at the performance did a full days racing and could not scrub them they stood up so well, in fact they are still on the tarmac wheeels for the car. With this in mind I bought a second set of staggered fittment for the CLK for the bargain price of £280 for all 4 corners, so far they have been brilliant no road noise fantastic grip in the wet and good grip when pushed hard in the dry, I must admit I would never have put these tyres on the CLK if I had not experienced them before, the only open question now is how long will they last, but performance for £'s I'm well chuffed so far

Some reviews HERE which are mixed I think it depends on the car and suspension set up but on a W208 absolutely fine.

Nankang 235 40 18 for the fronts on e bay £147 the pair.

Nankang 265 35 18 for the rear also on e bay £204 which is just about the same price as the Falken 452.

I reckon you should be able to get 4 falkens for the money you have, but the nankangs would leave you some cash to spend elsewhere.

Size listed is whats fitted to my car on amg monoblocks.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the advice.

Ive now ordered 4 x Falken 452 tyres which should arrive tommorow or tuesday, got them from Camskill and they cost £335 all in. Really like the design of the pattern and the tyre looks nice enough for my AMG wheels.

Will get some pics up as soon as I can.

Those Nankang NS2 sizes from my local supplier this morning £274 for all four corners fitted new valves and balanced. Good choice by Kal on the Falkens though.

Good choice yes and an even better price:thumb:
