Hi all,
I was just wondering what engine do you recommend for the w124 (200e, 230e and 300e).
Thanks.

For the power? Anyone know if the 200e nippy or is it sluggish? Thanks.

0-60 on a w124 200e is measured in geologic time.

I took my old 230TE for an MOT which had expired by the time I got home.

the 24v engines less reliable and blow up easily the std 300 black top is very good and same engine used w107 and w129 tried and tested.

for power e36 3.6 amg is the one apart from e500 which was designed by porsche

The 300e or 300e-24 are the best ones to have.

The 200 and 230 4 cylinder cars are slower than a super-glued snail, the 320's are fragile and always need something doing.

Diesel's dont give enough fuel economy to justify owning one in my opinion.

The e36 and 500e models are high performance cars.

Sweetest of the lot I reckon is the M1O3 2.6 6 cylinder but the later M104 2.8/3.2 twin cam engines are an entertaining drive [ a few reliability issues aside] Increasingly the early engines are experiencing EZL ignition unit failures and these are become more difficult/expensive to source. Check that these pre 1992 non multivalve engines have no HT firing issues when the engine compartment gets hot.

there people now repair the ezl units here in wembley so as to prolong the w124 lives

2.2 is ok-keeps up with modern traffic fine-obviously not a real road burner but decent economy -30-35 mpg on long runs possible-a good compromise imho.

Further details including prices would be welcome since the established re-manufacturers such as BBA REMAN deemed these un-repairable some time back. Do they repair the Bosch/Siemans PMS units as they were also regarded as sealed units also? Are you sure they are not simply supplying replacements from breakers yards? :dk:

contact rimantas his no 07977586349 mention dino with ml, hopefully he will give good price but it have car he can do it and test before u come and collect, post code nw2 7ts

they open the units and repair not breakers replacement

That snail picture is funny XD. The 220e seems good but I wouldn't mind the 200e.

Not tried any others, but I absolutely love the 300-24 M104 motor in mine. Smooth, quiet, refined, effortlessly fast, and I even got 29mpg out of it once. Mind you, normal consumption is more like 18 cos I live in a city and the acceleration is a bit addictive. 209000 miles on mine so far and it runs like it was new.
