When my W211 has the fan on (irrespective of whether the aircon is on or not - and I know the aircon is on even when turned off), I get a whirring noise which sounds like the transmission is straining under revs. When I turn the fan off altogether, the noise disappears (even when driving normally).

Is this the aircon pump on its way out? If not, is there a quick/cheap fix?

it sounds like the blower motor is noisey make sure you've no water leaks onto the motor check the carpets next time rains the water drains get blocked on the 211's the water would cause the motor 2 get noisey, ive replaced a few for that problem
