I ordered a Gates thermostat and this morning a MotoRad stat arrived.
Is there a possibility that this is part of Gates? I wouldn't think so but you never know.

It arrived in a broken seal Gates box, dated Sept 2012.
As the stat is dated Aug 2015 there is an obvious mismatch.

The attempt to defraud looks obvious to me but others with greater experience might have a different view.

The ad says they are based in Poland. If that means anything :dk:

    Tbh I just saw Duddley.
But I've had kit from eastern eu previously so it wouldn't deter me.
I have eBay protection anyway. Just flippin annoying that I've to repackage and drive to the the PO, after waiting over a week for something I wouldn't have bought.

I'm not impressed with the stat being 5 years old either.

I don't think Poland (click on the sellers details) is the 'problem' here , it's just the fact that you might not have got exactly what you paid for.

OK, is there a big difference in performance of the two brands?

I have no idea what brand I have on either of my cars, it's a pretty simple part and a 5 year old one will work just as well as a week old one.

    How much was it?

You may be right about an old one being still ok, but it has been sat expanding and contracting for 5 years so it has done some work.
To my mind this is an unbranded cheapo, but worse is the stat should have the calibrated temperature embossed (87 c for ours) this hasn't.

They promote Gates for the sale, put it in an old Gates box and try an insulting con. Poor is a very polite description.

I asked here as some one might have informed me that MotoRad made these for Gates.

Put the case in via ebay, the seller has to respond or they will decide in your favour anyway. If the seller does ask for it back and you have to pay for the postage, you can claim it back if you used paypal.

Why wouldn’t you buy the thermostat from one of the many well known suppliers such as ECP/GSF/AUTODOC or MB themselves?

I’ve never been a fan of buying aftermarket parts on ebay as it’s difficult to verify if they are genuine.

You’d think that but I found the same part (Gates) on AUTODOC for around £13 less.

Even when adding shipping from Germany it is still cheaper and will be the authentic part. :dk:

That's not so. I pay for the return if I've changed my mind for something that is correct. This is
    counterfeit.
I believe negative feedback isn't only deserved but it's correct to warn others. The trouble is that eBay are known to remove such and protect their revenues.

I have this thing about buying cheap stuff expensively.

For example, soap, I cannot stand cheap soap so instead of spending 50p on a bar of soap I will spend at least a £5.

Candles for the house, who wants to smell burning oil?

Bed linen, again why not have the best?

Thermostats, less bothered, I can't see it, it will do a job the same as any other brand.

I am a fan of Autodoc. You need to be sure of part numbers first, but they deal in massive volumes there is little risk of box fiddling etc in my opinion.

Everything I've received from them seems 100%.
