My beloved ML is having to nest on a pretty poor driveway at the moment . Anyone know who can do a driveway at a decent price without bringing in the cowboys? (SE London/Kent)

My next door neighbours son specialises in the design and laying of block drives. Hes good, quick and wont rip you off. And hes fairly local (Orpington). If you want to see an example of his work email me on [email protected] and I will email you back with details of where I live. He did my drive and I am extremely happy with the quality of work. Its been done now for a couple of years as looks as good as the day it was done. You can come over and take a look and see for yourself. I wont say anything to him unless you specifically say, so there will be NO obligation on your part to take this any further should you decide not to proceed.

I had block paving at a house some years ago, I wouldn't have it again. Problems with weeds and things growing between the blocks and I couldn't use weed killer as I had dogs. Blocks also become slippy with moss etc if they are in the shade.

Personally I would go with patterned concrete as there's a lot less chance of the problems above and you have a wider choice of colours and patterns.

Just my opinion.

If you go for block paving make sure they use Clay paviors - not the cheaper blocks which fade in use.

Clays are twice the price but the real expense on this job is labour so use the better materials - especially if you plan to stay where you are. Driveways should be sealed properly - the cover does wear over time but can be renewed. Non-harmful weedkillers are available.

Done well these drives are great.

I'll do it for a fiver :D

As you already have mentioned just make sure who ever does it do a proper job and look at work they have done before and ask the people who have had work how well has it stud up.

You don't want a 'cheap' job and then find the ML slowly sinking or when you have the car on full lock the blocks move..

Its probably worth paying for a pucka job especially if your planning on staying their for a while, it will indirectly add value to your house giving it 'kerb' appeal.

Depends on the size it may not be too bad. Its on our list but having just had a full rewire its moved down the list a little.

My 'family' ;) did mine. Cost very very little and is a top quality job:bannana:

Well worth having it done as it allowed me to park four cars on the driveway and removed the need to maintain the front garden!
