I have lost the spare key, and thinking i should get a spare made..before i loose the one i am using..

Do i have to go to main dealers for this?

thanks
Sam

depending on which key, but theya re around £150 and yes a dealer only you need passport V5 etc

You are dead right £240 is the price of a new key from Mercedes dealership,I went to them recently to get a new key for my SL.

cool thanks..
it was my dads car before i bought it off him, and he managed to loose both keys..at one point..dont ask!

It cost him near £400 to get a new key - they said he had to bring the car down for verification...amm, he lost both keys! anyway they charged another £90 odd to come down to look at the car... and handed over the key

We must be getting ripped of for these from the main dealers surely?

I got one last week, £227.. The link above for merc key people are £190. Beware though. If you have keyless feature the merc key people cant do it and when getting it from dealers your car has to go in to get the keyless tuned in which i think they charge for, but as they didnt tell me and cocked up order first time round they didnt charge me.. Of course if you havnt got keyless all the above is irrelevant..

When I say that the price was £240 I did not buy one I just asked the guy behind the counter, then I went home and found out the battery was missing from the spare key so put in a new battery and you guessed it I now have my 2 keys again, was I chuffed.

I used this guy a few years ago for my CLK....

....even though the key he supplied looked like a mercedes original, it wasn't, and the facia fell off after a few weeks. It turned out that the key casing he used was a Chinese copy. He did replace it with a better quality casing but he only had the 2 button version and not the 3 button I paid for. He promised to send me a 3 button one in the post but never did. It's also worth pointing out that the keys he supplies don't come with the metal emergency key.

On the plus side he'll come to your car and he only needs to see proof of identity not proof of ownership of the car. Also, his prices are at least £70 cheaper than main dealers.
