Who runs a S320CD1 W221?

Anyone have any comments or advice on these cars?

I currently have an E320 W211 and I am considering an S class when I next change the car.

I did that about a year ago. The heavier S with a particle filter burns 1.5 litres more diesel per 100 km, should not be a surprise as the I6 on the W211 does so well. Don't know if you now have the I6 or the newer V6 on your W211.

The W221 320CDI performance feels quite sufficient for me, even compared to the I6 W211. A matter of opinion of course, why would anybody otherwise buy an S65. At my place the 320 CDI is also less expensive than the E350 gasser.

I hope you have big enough parking lots.

Don't know if you now have the I6 or the newer V6 on your W211.

My W211 is one of the last I6 - I thinks its a fantastic engine the overtaking ability is supurb.

E verus S

I am currently privileged to have both a V6 diesel E class and a S320CDI.
My wife is using the E Class most of the time while I do my long distance commuting in the S.
I still drive the E regularly so can make a reasonable comparison.
Despite sharing the same engine and transmission it is amazing that the S is such a superior car.
From the feel and response of all the controls to the sublime ride quality it is very much better than the sum of its parts. I have owned many cars and test driven even more, but the S320 simply makes the least fuss of a swift, safe road journey of any car I have tried.
It also manages 40mpg on main road runs which makes me feel I am at least not alone in warming the planet.
You may be surprised by the V6 compared to the straight six, but I’m sure you will be won over by the completeness of the S class. I don’t know of a better car.
….but that depends on your criteria. Anything specific you would like to know?

Had two - magnificent car. There is still nothing in it's class to beat it, other than the new S320CDI. Go buy one!

Is it only fitted to the back seats?

I must say that the V6 320CDI is very powerful and quiet, it has no clattering sound at all.

This engine is also fitted in the ML 320CDI W164, which I had for a fews while mine was in the bodyshop.

I will give that engine 10 of 10 for power :bannana: and quietness. No sound when moving.

Down side is the fuel economy is bad in town ,
Motorway is excellent.

I wish I could put that engine in my W163, that would be some project.
Anyone got a 320CDI V6 spare engine?

The Passion leather is on all the seats(!) and was not an option I would have specified if I started with a clean sheet but this stock car had all the other featutres I wanted and the price and delivery was right.
However, having now got used to the luxury, I am now passionate about the soft, smooth comfort offered. Soothing leather would be a more 'proper' name!
